I tried Costa's 'hot cross bun' hot chocolate and was amazed by the taste

Costa has launched its new spring drinks range and it’s a dream for hot cross bun lovers.

The hot cross bun drinks range features a hot cross bun latte, cappuccino and hot chocolate, which comes after its collaboration with M&S.

I’ve already tried the hot cross bun latte, and I wasn’t blown away, but now it was time for the hot chocolate.

Being a big hot chocolate lover, I knew it was going to be hard for me to not enjoy this.

The hot chocolate includes warming spices and fruity notes, topped with a light dairy swirl and crunchy hot cross bun biscuit.

The hot chocolate

The hot chocolate itself smelt absolutely amazing, and although I didn’t opt for cream, I still got the hot cross bun biscuit on top.

One sip in and I was blown away by the hot cross flavour, in fact, I’d go as far to say it was actually better than a hot cross bun because of the chocolatey taste.

It was thick, creamy, and had just the right amount of spice without tasting too much like raisins.

Strangely, it tastes so much better than the coffee that I first tried, which I’m assuming used the same flavouring - perhaps it was down to the toppings?

Either way, I was amazed with the taste, and would happily have this drink all year round if I could.

The hot chocolate was smooth and sweet, but not too sickly, and I thought it was absolutely delicious.

The verdict

I think that people who don’t even like hot cross buns would still like this hot chocolate, because it’s a perfect combination of flavours.

The hot cross bun biscuit on top was a great addition and added a subtle hint of spice and slight crunch to the drink.

I opted for a small hot chocolate which was £3.60, and it was just enough for me.
