I tried Boots £5 'glow' serum used in Love Island villa that gives 'glass skin'

With Love Island back on our TV screens and heatwaves on the way, beauty fans are craving hydrated and healthy complexions to see them through the summer months. And there’s a £5 product from Boots we’ve spotted in the villa that may just help you achieve it.

Celebrities always seem to be blessed with an otherworldly glow, with the likes of Hailey Bieber leading the ‘glass skin’ trend - one which sees skin so flawless it resembles glass.

The hashtag #glassskin has racked up 1.8 billion views on TikTok with shoppers desperate to achieve similar results.

Boots shoppers have been heaping praise on the £5 Boots Glow Essence serum, which aims to hydrate and refresh the skin, leaving it ‘looking brighter and feeling plumped’, with one customer saying: “It gave me a lovely glass skin effect.”

And we suspect it’s about to become a firm favourite with Islanders too, after spotting it on a shelf in the dressing room on the ITV dating show. Health and beauty retailer Boots has provided a number of beauty, skincare and fragrance products for the contestants to use as the show’s exclusive beauty partner.

But this isn't the first time it’s been in the villa, having been used by last year’s Islanders too. Desperate to achieve delightfully dewy skin myself, I snapped up the affordable beauty product last year and have been enjoying using the serum since, even repurchasing it once or twice.

After cleansing and toning my skin, I’ve been massaging two to three drops of the serum from the pipette dispenser into my skin. The lightweight and silky product has a light fragrance that’s a little bit like Parma Violets, but it’s nice and subtle.

Serums are perfect for people with dry skin, and then you want to lock in that product with a good moisturiser - Boots even do a matching moisturising cream, which would be perfect.

After using the serum, my skin felt energised, fresh and looked hydrated and glowing. The product practically gave me a face lift, and made my skin look brighter.

The affordable beauty buy won’t break the bank, but it will certainly level up your daily skincare routine. And I’ve heard that once you use it, you’ll never go back to another, with Boots shopper Catey2110 having recently picked up her third bottle.

Leaving a five-star review on the Boots website, she said: “I was given this at Christmas in a gift set. I’ve used various serums from stupidly expensive to ridiculously cheap over the years but I can honestly say, this tiny bottle does what it says…. GLOWING SKIN!!

“I’m now on my 3rd bottle and I won’t swap it for anything else. I’m 45yrs old and my skin has never looked so plump or well hydrated since issuing this. I’ve had so many compliments since using this that it’s boosted my confidence! I use it with the Glow moisturiser and cannot get over how such an amazing product can be so low cost.”

She even begged the retailer to never discontinue it, adding: “Please Boots, DON’T EVER stop making this or change the formula!! I love it so much I’ve bought 5 bottles for my bridesmaids gift boxes.”

Gaylejd commented: “Bought the Boots glow essence serum last week after reading rave reviews. It really does smell lovely, make up goes on a dream & is not greasy at all. Gives skin a lovely, healthy glow & I'll definitely repurchase this. Good value too with 28ml in a pretty bottle.”

Of 114 reviews on the Boots website, only four people rated it one star, with one commenting: “Not too keen on this product I have oily skin and it seemed to make it look and feel worse it gave my skin a greasy appearance. Probably would work a lot better for normal skin.”

Following the success of the Boots Glow Essence Serum, the high street favourite has since launched a peach version of the serum, which will 100% be my next purchase because it smells delicious - I already have the £2.50 face scrub and it’s almost good enough to eat (though I definitely don’t recommend doing that).

What’s more is that there’s a whole Boots Glow range so that you can use matching products like eye creams and lip masks for a cohesive skincare routine that works together.

So, if you’ve been on the hunt for a serum to incorporate into your skincare routine, this is it - gorgeous glowy skin for the price of an iced coffee, and you’ll look more awake than if you’d consumed the caffeine. You can pick up the Boots Glow Essence Serum on the Boots website for £5 here.
