I tried Aldi's Tom Ford 'dupe' thats £173 cheaper than the luxury brand

Fans of Tom Ford’s luxury fragrances are rushing to Aldi after the supermarket launched a suspected dupe of one of the designer brand’s most popular scents.

Priced at just £4.99 a bottle, the Aldi Hotel Collection aftershave is £173 cheaper than it’s lavish inspiration, with 50ml of Tom Ford coming in at £178.

A shopper on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group shared a photo of the Aldi ‘Tobacco and Vanilla’ eau de parfum, saying it smells ‘the exact same’ as the original.

They wrote: “Tom Ford dupe from Aldi. Seen someone post this the other day and as the Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is my go to fragrance, I wanted to check it out myself.

“The smell is the EXACT same, can’t comment on the longevity yet as I’ve only just put it on but it is an EDP which is good, better than an EDT. Even has that hint of cherry that TF Tobacco Vanille has. At 5 quid a bottle I don’t mind even if it only last a couple hours.”

The customer loved the fragrance so much she bought six bottles - one for the car, one for the house, and four spare, yet still spending only a fraction of the price of one Tom Ford bottle.

In fact, her 300ml of perfume cost £29.94, with 250ml of Tom Ford setting shoppers back £412.

Others were quick to compliment the Specialbuy, with one s: “I ayinglove this! Lasts all day and the scent gets better too!”

Another wrote: “I bought this and it’s lovely, I put some on In the morning and could still smell it at night, well worth a try.”

While the coveted fragrance is yet to launch on Aldi’s website, I managed to find a bottle in store, alongside a Jasmine and Sandalwood version, too.

The unisex fragrance comes boxed in a black box with silver detailing, containing a sleek black glass bottle with a silver lid. While the lid might not be as extravagant as Tom Ford’s, and the £178 fragrance offers gold detail, it’s still easy to see where Aldi’s product development team may have looked for inspiration.

The Tom Ford fragrance is said to have notes of “Tobacco leaf, aromatic spices, tonka bean, tobacco flower, vanilla, cocoa, fruit accord, wood sap.” And spritzing the Aldi scent, there’s definitely hints of vanilla with warm woody notes.

It’s a really beautiful smelling aftershave, and one I’d definitely wear for everyday, to save my more expensive perfumes for best. It was fairly long lasting too, with friends complimenting me on my perfume hours after I’d applied it.

Of course, Tobacco and Vanilla is not the only fragrance dupe that Aldi shoppers love. The Pure Noir fragrance is said to be a dead ringer for Tom Ford Black Orchid , while the Lacura Lady Pour Femme and Lacura Atom - launched last month - are very similar to the £98 Carolina Herrera Good Girl and Escentric Molecules’ Molecule 1 perfume.

The Tobacco and Vanilla scent is part of Aldi's Hotel Collection brand - like this candle - and is sure to save you a small fortune.
