It's summer and Wimbledon 2022 is in full swing, which means only one thing - it's time for a Pimms.
The gin-based liqueur is usually drank during the summer months and is the drink of choice for Wimbledon, usually served at posh summer garden parties. A posh drink comes at a posh price, and at £20 per 1 litre bottle, it's no wonder Aldi have come up with a more affordable alternative.
The bargain store is known for its affordable dupes, including plenty of luxury replicas from its own beauty brand Lacura and its own dupes on branded grocery items. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the Austin's Classic Summer Punch priced at £7.49 which is currently unavailable online to see if there was much of a difference between the two.

To look at, both bottles had very similar branding and looked exactly the same in terms of colour. The Aldi bottle was approximately 700ml with 25% alcohol, and the original Pimms was the same.
I poured both Pimms into a glass with three parts lemonade and plenty of ice and was surprised at how similar they both looked. Both drinks had that deep moreish red colour we all know and love, and it made me particularly thirsty just looking at it!
Being completely honest, the Aldi Pimms wasn't as strong in flavour as the original Pimms, but that wasn't a particular issue for me. I actually ended up preferring the Aldi version because it was a little lighter and not as bitter.
The original Pimms was very strong in flavour, but if you prefer something a little lighter (like me) the Aldi bottle is definitely your best option. To think that the Austin's summer punch was £9 cheaper is absolutely mind-blowing to me, because both bottles have the tiniest of differences - practically miniscule.
For those who still want that classic Pimms flavour for almost half the price, I'd highly recommend the cheaper Aldi alternative. They taste virtually the same, have the same amount of alcohol content and look exactly the same in the bottle.
Although the Aldi version is slightly lighter in terms of taste, it actually makes the drink more pleasurable in my opinion. Of course, it all depends on what you prefer, but I think this replica is refreshing, tasty, and not as heavy.
I'd happily make the swap if it means I save £9, because every little helps nowadays. Aldi have smashed it once again with their affordable dupes.
