'I tried Aldi's £1 hand wash that's a dupe for Molton Brown's £22 soap but wish I hadn't'

As inflation rises, more of us are filling our baskets at Aldi and switching our luxury beauty products for the German retailer's offerings.

Aldi dupes are often popular among budget-conscious shoppers who want a quality product without paying a premium price. I'd previously been impressed by their skincare line. The £2.99 Lacura Healthy Glow Glycolic Toner is a dead ringer for the £18 Pixi Glow Tonic, and its £1.99 Original Hot Cloth Cleanser is a carbon copy of Liz Earle's £30 Cleanse and Polish.

So, as I was doing my weekly shop, I thought it was about time I tried another of Aldi's replica products. TikTok influencers pointed me in the direction of Lacura's luxurious hand washes which are supposedly similar to Molton Brown's soaps.

My Aldi had three scent options: white mulberry, cypress and sea fennel, and, my choice, rhubarb and rose.

Aldi says its luxurious hand wash will "cleanse and indulge hands for the sensation of softer, smoother skin as well as helping to keep hands hydrated". But its delivery doesn't quite hit the mark for something that promises so much.

The hand wash is pink in colour and comes in a stylish pump bottle, making it a nice visual addition to any bathroom or kitchen sink. Upon application, the tangy rhubarb scent hits you first, followed by a fragrant rose smell.

It has quite a refreshing and floral aroma that lingers on the skin after use. The soap produces a decent lather and washes off easily.

However, I wasn't left with smooth and supple hands as promised; instead, my hands felt devoid of hydration, like they'd been stripped of moisture. For something you're supposed to use regularly, it's worrying how dry my skin felt after one use.

In summary, Aldi's Lacura Rhubarb and Rose Luxurious Hand Wash has a delightful scent, and the £1.19 price tag doesn't break the bank. However, the drying effect it had on my hands means I won't reach for it any time soon.
