I tried a five-minute 'garlic bread cheat' recipe in the air fryer

I love garlic bread, who doesn't?

I'd eat it all the time if I could, the cheesier the better, and more specifically garlic pizza bread. So when I was sent a video by a friend on social media with a recipe for a "garlic bread cheat" in the air fryer, I knew I had to try it.

Given my (biased) success a couple of weeks back with the Salt and Pepper chicken, what could go wrong? Now I'm officially an air fryer pro, I couldn't wait to give it a try and I was surprised by the limited ingredients - and limited time - needed.

I was skeptical at first, wraps, cheese, butter, garlic and oregano... surely you need more? But I trusted the process and it actually ended up being okay. My first error though was not checking the sizes and then getting wraps too big for the air fryer, and cutting them in half meant the cheese was flying everywhere.

But once I got the smaller wraps, it was a breeze. Simply get two wraps, spread butter on each, sprinkle on your mozzarella cheese - how much is too much? - and top with your garlic granules and oregano and you're ready to go.

Placing one wrap on top of the other, pop it in the pre-heated air fryer for five minutes on 190C and there you have it. It tasted better than I expected it to and it certainly looked the part.

The only problem I had was that the bottom of the wrap didn't seem to crisp and was slightly 'soggy' and the pieces themselves were pretty flimsy, but what can you expect for a thin wrap? Regardless it was a pretty quick and ideal snack that anyone could do.

I did see some other suggestions on social media with crushing the garlic and mixing it with the butter to make a garlic paste, or using basil instead of oregano but we like to keep things simple here. Some also suggested adding tomato puree and toppings to make a 'mini pizza' - the options are endless.

Would I try it again? Probably. I don't think I'm ready to put the air fryer away just yet so I will keep an eye on more (easy) recipes.

Here's the basic recipe I followed:

Ingredients

  • Two wraps
  • Grated mozzarella
  • Butter
  • Garlic granules
  • Oregano

Method

Preheat the air fryer for a couple of minutes. Butter both wraps on one side and sprinkle with the mozzarella cheese - however much you like.

Top each wrap with your preferred amount of garlic and a little bit bit of oregano and place on top of each other in the air fryer.

Heat on 190C for around five minutes, or slightly longer until the cheese is fully melted. And enjoy.
