My hair has always been notoriously difficult to curl because it struggles to hold the style for much longer than an hour. Naturally straight and fairly long, styling my hair into blow-out style rings or waves can take a lot of time, patience and hairspray.
But I’ve recently been using a Remington curling wand that transforms my hair in half an hour with low heat to prevent damage.
The Remington Hydraluxe curling wand is priced at £36.99 on their site, but is currently on offer at Boots and Amazon for £29.99.

Remington said: “The Hydraluxe Curling Wand gives you beautiful, healthy looking, shiny curls without the worry of excessive heat damage. The Moisture Lock Ceramic Coated Barrel helps to preserve the hair’s perfect balance of moisture, while the Hydracare Temperature Setting styles at the lower temperature of 185°C for healthy styling.”
The wand features a sleek design with white handle, gold barrel and black tips, with small, almost concealed buttons for switching it on and adjusting the temperature settings.
Ahead of using the wand I washed my hair with the Superdrug Me+ argon oil shampoo and conditioner, drying it with the Remington Thermacare Pro 2400 hair dryer. Heat protection spray is an absolute must when using styling appliances, so I split my hair into sections and gave it a good spritz before warming up the curling wand.
The Remington Hydraluxe Curling Wand comes with a heat protection glove to wear on your non-dominant hand - or the hand you’ll be holding your hair, rather than the wand with - to avoid burns.
After switching on the curling iron you can adjust the temperature with the + and - buttons, but the recommended temperature is 185 degrees for ‘healthy’ styling. The Remington device heats up quickly in around 30 seconds, so you can get started on curling your lower layer of hair straight away by wrapping sections around the barrel. Curls take around 10 to 15 seconds to form before they can be released.

Some people may want to pin their curls up while they’re still warm for a longer-lasting, more defined look, but I prefer a more relaxed, bouncy look for every day.
The digital temperature control has five settings reaching up to 210 degrees and has a temperature lock function so that you can’t accidentally knock the settings up or down.
It also features a swivel cord which means you’re not constantly fighting with the cable between curls, and a heat protection stand to avoid melting your windowsill or burning your carpet. There is also an automatic safety shut off after 60 minutes, which should give you plenty of time to curl your hair, and adds a little extra peace of mind.
The 32mm barrel has an anti-slip coating, so I found that when I was curling my hair it wasn’t sliding all around the barrel. It’s a slightly chunkier wand than I’ve previously used but I really liked the big bouncy effect it gave.
My best advice is to let your curls cool before spraying them with hairspray and giving them a brush through as it helps them to last longer.
My curls lasted all day and still looked great the next day too, albeit a bit more slept on and messy. The Remington wand comes with a handy storage pouch to keep it in, ideal for travelling if you’re going away this summer.
You can buy it for £29.99 on the Boots website here.
