I tried a £20 subscription box that saves me money on my dogs every month

I’ve tried a few subscription boxes out over the last decade or so, from beauty boxes like Glossybox and Birchbox, to stationery subscriptions like Papergang. But did you know you can also get subscription boxes for your dog?

My rescue Staffy-crosses Phoebe and Frank are big fans of the WufWuf subscription box, and have been trying it out for the last five months, receiving a new box filled to the brim with goodies each month.

Subscription boxes for pets are a really fun way to discover new treats and toys without having to trawl the internet yourself, and it means your pets have a monthly rotation of toys keeping play time even more exciting.

Each box has a set theme, such as ‘Hairy Metal’ which was our first rock music inspired box, or #Wimbledog when the tennis tournament was on. Last month we received a safari inspired subscription, and this month's theme was ‘United Kingdog’. I would imagine that it was entirely coincidental that such a patriotic box was released the same month that Her Majesty the Queen passed away, making King Charles III our new monarch, but it felt like a really nice touch, actually.

Our WufWuf subscription box was packed so full this month, I actually struggled to get it open - it was bursting. Each WufWuf box - priced at £18.85 for the first three months, contains at least five items, but often, there’s more inside. In some months I’ve often had extra chews with a sticker reading ‘free extra gift’, which is always a joy to find.

The five items in the box are valued at over £45, meaning that you pay less than half the retail value for all of the fun treats, chews, toys and sometimes accessories inside. As a dog-mum that could easily spend over £50 on Phoebe and Frank in a month, this is a great way of making sure their treat and toy box is always topped up, without the need to place extra orders or impulse buy at the supermarket.

Phoebe and Frank can now recognise the WufWuf box so were quick to nudge it open for themselves and see what was inside.

In this United Kingdog box we received two squeaky toys - a London ‘city transpawt’ bus, and a ‘telepaw’ box. There was also a pack of Doggie Dippers from Happy Mutt Nut Co, a packet of salmon flavoured treats and two vegetable chews, which was ideal, as it meant I wouldn’t need to get the saw out to split it for the dogs to share.

I laid out all of the products on the carpet and let them choose what they wanted. Unsurprisingly, they went for the veggie chews. They’ve had these before and considering they’re packaging-free, it required no effort on their part, making them an easy win.

Frank finished his chew first, and came back to the pile to pick out a toy, opting for the squeaky phone box, leaving Phoebe with the bus, which she didn’t seem to mind. I’ve always been quite impressed with WufWuf toys, as they seem much sturdier than other plush toys on the market.

Phoebe and Frank have become experts at de-stuffing toys in seconds, but WufWuf toys always seem to last for a second play. Not many plush toys find themselves a spot in the toybox instead of the bin, but with close supervised play, they last surprisingly well.

The salmon treats come in quite a large pouch and are ideal for training or while out on walks. We’ve added them to our refillable jar and it looks like they’ll see us through the month until our next box arrives. Meanwhile the Doggie Dippers we received were the lavender and chamomile flavour, which was perfect for calming them down with after all the excitement from the box.

These treats are the canine equivalent of Dairylea Dunkers, and go down very well with my food-obsessed pooches.

When ordering a box for yourself, WufWuf asks for details about your pet such as their name, age and preferences so that your box can be tailored to your pet. When you place an order, you immediately get their most recent box shipped, and any future boxes will be a total surprise when they arrive. That means if you order now, you’ll receive this exact London-themed box - followed by a surprise theme next month.

WufWuf said: “The trouble is the time and effort it takes to research - and then go find - toys and chews that are safe and healthy… Not to mention the strain it puts on our wallets, especially if your dog is particularly ‘enthusiastic’ about toys.

“We decided we needed an easier way to keep our dogs happy. WufWuf was founded not only to make it effortless for you to provide the best products for your dog, but also to make it easier to afford. This makes it simpler than ever to provide consistent stimulation to your furry family member – resulting in a healthier happier dog.”

I’ve been really impressed with the contents of the WufWuf subscription box, so much so that I’ve just renewed my subscription for another month. The toys are sturdy, and Phoebe and Frank love the treats that are inside each month. Not only that, but it helps me save money and stops me from panic-buying treats because I know WufWuf has it taken care of. We can’t wait to see what comes in next month’s box.
