I tried a £10 kombucha overnight mask and my skin felt like silk

I usually find ‘overnight masks’ are often quite expensive, so never really bother with them.

With the changing weather from boiling hot to cold and rainy, my skin has definitely been through a fair bit recently. My face was feeling dry and dull and I’d been suffering from a few breakouts.

I’ve never really used any overnight masks before, purely because they often end up being quite expensive. The ‘Skin Proud Sleep Defence Overnight’ mask is priced at £10 on the Boots website, which seemed like a pretty good price to me.

Suitable for all skin types, the mask is said to ‘calm worn out and dull skin’ to ‘help combat irritation and redness.’ It contains niacinamide, an ingredient said to leave your skin feeling soft and supple.

According to the product description, the mask ‘forms a protective barrier whilst you sleep’ to leave your skin ‘refreshed, energised and glowing.’ All you need to do is apply a thin layer before bedtime and let it work its magic.

The mask

The kombucha mask was quite thick in consistency, when I squeezed some out onto my hand I could tell that a little really does go a long way. Once I smoothed it onto my face, I was amazed at the freshness of the product.

I was wary that the mask wouldn’t dry properly on my face and leave my pillowcase feeling sticky, but it dried really quickly. The mask smoothed onto my face really easily and it smelt absolutely amazing.

The brand Skin Proud claims to ‘expertly blend together science-led ingredients’ with ‘powerful natural extracts’ and that was very evident from the of. The mask didn’t feel harsh or irritable on my skin and was generally very refreshing.

After washing off the mask in the morning, my skin felt so silky and soft, but it also looked brighter too. Usually in the morning the bags under my eyes are (very) evident and my skin looks generally pale, but it had a real glow to it after one use.

The verdict

Considering this mask is just shy of £10, I was really impressed with how well it worked. I’ve spent a lot of money on expensive skincare products in the past, and this is just proof that you don’t really need to sometimes.
