A pet owner has found themselves living every animal lover's nightmare after getting a devastating call from the groomer they'd only just left their beloved dog with.
According to this dog owner, they took their pooch Ace to get a trim from a groomer they'd used before. Previously, the groomer had worked from home but had since moved their business to a small shop.
Just 20 minutes after leaving Ace in her care, they received a phone call informing them that Ace had jumped off the grooming table and had somehow managed to dash out of the door while the groomer's boyfriend had been taking the trash out.
Taking to Reddit, the distraught dog lover wrote: "I rushed over as quickly as possible but at that point, they had no eyes on him especially since it was on a busy street with a bunch of buildings.
"They helped look for like three hours but went on with their day and said they would call the shelter in the morning. It's going on the next day and my dog is still missing."
Reaching out for any legal advice, they continued: "I feel as if even though she tried helping she is still liable.
"Ace is family and the fact that he was lost and it was out of my control. My question is, is there any legal action I can take for this?"
One sympathetic person advised: "Yes, they will likely be liable for your lost dog if not found. That said, the law treats pets as property, so recovery would be limited to the actual value of the dog, rather than any sentimental value as a family member.
"I really hope you are able to recover your dog, as this is far more valuable than any payout."
Another suggested: "No legal advice, but lost dog advice. Get your dog's bed, some food/treats, one of their favourite toys, and your dog's favourite person's used shirt.
"Take those to the last place you saw them and keep an eye on it. That might help them find you instead of the other way around."
