‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year’ - and many people are certainly enjoying a trip out to Nottingham's Winter Wonderland in Old Market Square. Community reporter, Keimae Blake, took £20 - leaving with a full stomach and change!
I’m never one to say no to food! Whether you want something that’s sweet, spicy, hot or cold, Winter Wonderland has it all.
After reports of people finding the Christmas market “too expensive”, I must say after going there, I understand - especially if you’re wanting to ice skate or go on any of the rides - but overall, it’s the perfect place to come for those who wish it could be Christmas everyday. With Christmas music playing in the background, I walked around the Christmas market and tried some fun fair favourites.

Among couples walking hand in hand, children excitedly not knowing where to look and people strolling through, my first stop was to get a hot chocolate. The stall Temptations was calling my name.
With staff inside the stall dressed in red jumpers and red hats, this store also sells mouth-watering crepes for £8. There’s no doubt it’s getting colder so walking around, I got a Ferrero Rocher hot chocolate for £5 from the stall and it may have been a bit more on the pricier side compared to a local coffee shop but tasted and smelled delicious. With cream sprinkled with nuts and a Ferrero Rocher at the top, walking around all warm, I looked at all the other stalls around me.
I noticed that the Pork Hut was popular. For £7.50 you can get a pulled pork cob and although I didn’t have one, I watched a man biting into his, satisfied. They do look filling.
The big red bus from the Great British Fudge Company is something you can’t miss with different flavoured fudges for £2.99 per 100G. I watched people not being able to resist taking a look at what they had to offer.
I went to the Christmas market at around lunchtime and although there were dozens of people, it wasn’t as packed as it is at night as you would expect so the ice rink was bare. For those of you who don’t feel too confident on the ice and would rather not fall flat as people whiz by, lunchtime is the time to go!
Walking past the open fire where you can toast marshmallows yourself for £4.50, I noticed a stall selling Bratwurst and it would’ve been rude not to get one. As I watched the sausages sizzle away, I ordered a Bockwurst for £6.50.
The person serving me asked if I’d like any onions or sauce and I settled for just onions. Placed in a hot dog bun, my Bockwurst was flavoursome and smoky. I highly recommend going to the German Kart.
It was 10/10. As people passed by, I saw that Filthy Vegan had a bit of queue.
Their best-seller this year is the Festive Vegan Kebab priced at £7.50. The stall sells hot dogs, wraps and more too.
Convincing myself that buying three things is better than two, to round up my trip to Winter Wonderland I got some doughnuts. Four douhgnuts with two toppings on them is £7.
I chose nutella and biscoff drizzled over my doughnuts. They weren’t as hot as I would have liked them (the ones you get at Goose Fair are better) but they were still tasty by the second one I was full!
I may take a trip back to Winter Wonderland at night and wrap up warm for a drink in the Ice Bar or a ride on the big wheel. I won’t, however, be skating in the air - how scary!
I spent a total of £18.50, leaving with £1.50 change. Filled with stalls worth taking a look at, Winter Wonderland did not disappoint.
