I struggled at Celtic but now I'm quizzed on Brazil eligibility

Alexandro Bernabei has revealed his ambition is now to line up alongside Lionel Messi for Argentina as he nears completion of his £4.5 million move from Celtic.

The full back is set to depart the Scottish champions after Internacional turned his loan move into a permanent one after negotiations over the weekend.

Bernabei's displays in Brazil's Serie A saw him named in their Team of the Season and now he wants to cap it by winning a call-up to the World Cup winners.

"You have to keep working. If it has to happen, it will happen at some point, hopefully.

"It would be a dream to play with my country's shirt.

"I don't know Lionel Messi and I would love to meet him. If it's on the pitch with Argentina, even better...

"We have players like Julio Soler, Colo Barco and Francisco Ortega who have played there, but I am up for the task of competing for that position.

"They even asked me if I could play for Brazil here!

"Then all my friends sent me the videos, memes and stickers with me wearing the Brazilian shirt!

"At Internacional, I changed my attitude and my desire to improve every day and I never stopped learning.

"The full-back position is a position that is highly regarded in Brazil."
