'I stopped dyeing my hair on my 45th birthday - now I'm fully embracing my natural look'

A mum has shown off her unrecognisable hair transformation after making the decision to stop dyeing her hair. The woman, known as Missy G on TikTok, regularly went to the hair salon to get her hair dyed a dark brown colour and was known for her signature brunette look.

However when it came to her 45th birthday, Missy G made the decision to stop colouring her hair all together and instead went for a more natural look. She then began to let her roots come through, and five years on she is now fully embracing her grey hair.

The mum, now 49, admitted that although her husband was fully supportive of the change but her kids weren't so happy about it. Missy G's hair transformation started off with just her fringe coming through grey - which sparked comments on social media.

The mum was known for sporting dark brown straight hair which she styled with a full fringe, but after letting her silver hair shine through, some of her followers were questioned if Missy G was purposely letting her hair turn grey, reports the Daily Star.

The TikTok user has now shared a video detailing her entire grey hair journey which has amassed more than five million views.

"In October 2018, on my 45th, I decided to stop colouring my hair," she explained in the viral clip.

"My dark brown hair had always been a big part of my identity, but I decided to be brave and see where this journey would take me.

"My husband was supportive. My kids? Not so much.

"People started asking 'are you letting your grey come in?."

Missy G was not frightened to admit that she was letting her natural hair grow out.

She continued: "While I embraced the grey, I also learned how to embrace my natural waves and curls. I tried different styles...tried lots of different curl products and styling techniques."

Near a year on from beginning her journey, Missy G started to like who she was "growing into" as her grey roots shone through.

"I started to really like who I was growing into," the mum said.

"My confidence grew and I stopped worrying about looking 'old'."

As the pandemic hit, Missy G had to cut her own hair during the lockdowns due to the salon being closed. And by 2021, the grey transition was "complete."

"I couldn't be happier," she gushed.

"It took my a long time to feel ready to go grey. So if you're not feeling it now - don't stress it.

"I'm so glad I took the leap and discovered that my natural curl and grey feels beautiful to me.

"It can feel daunting and scary to go grey, but I'm so glad I made the transition to my natural colour and texture."

Many people took the comments to compliment Missy G's new hair - which inspired some people to go grey themselves.

One woman commented: "It looks great. My husband says 'I'm not ready for you to be grey.' To which I reply 'I wasn't ready for you to be bald, but here we are.'"

Another wrote: "I'm 50 and I have been debating, every time I start to let it go I chicken out. But this gives me hope. You look awesome!

A third added: "You look amazing with grey hair!!," whilst another said: "Love it! And you look younger. You have a glow."

Another comment read: "Gorgeous! Grey hair is where it's at. No more being a slave to hair dye."
