A woman has been left mortified after her date stormed out her house after learning her dog's unusual name. She explained how she got a brown-haired retriever for her birthday when she was 15-years-old - and decided to call him Stupid after he walked straight into a door when she first met him.
But now she is aged 24, she regrets giving him such a 'unique' name so she refers to him as Stu when she's in public instead. Taking to Reddit, she said: "He's a beautiful dog, but when we first got him he walked straight into a fly-wire door, and that gave me the idea to call him 'Stupid', not because I actually thought he was stupid but because I thought it was hilarious to have a dog named Stupid.
"I kind of regretted this decision after a while and I really wish my parents would have stopped me from making it - but I still find it kind of amusing and I couldn't exactly have my dog answer to a different name so he's just called Stupid now, Stu for short, and that's what I always call him.
"I moved out with my dog a year ago and he's near the end of his life now."
She went on to explain how she met a "super sweet" guy in a bar and invited him back to her apartment to meet her dog after speaking about him over drinks.
She added: "I introduced him to my dog with the usual, 'This is my dog, he's Stupid' line that people usually respond to but he was like, 'Don't call him Stupid, he's just a dog' and I explained.
"He storms out calling me an a***hole for being that mean to a poor animal.
"As far as I'm concerned, the dog doesn't know, I treat him the same, I call him Stu anyway without fail and people usually find it funny, with some exceptions of people commenting on it over the years."
Wanting to know whether she's in the wrong or whether he overreacted, she has taken to Reddit to ask users for their thoughts.
In response, one user said: "That's a great name but some people have no sense of humour."
Another user added: "I can't believe your parents just let you go ahead with it but as long as you've given him a happy and healthy life then it doesn't matter what you call him."
A third user said: "I don't get how people think it is an a***hole move to call a dog that. I mean, it's literally just a dog, not a human being.
"The guy you were talking to needs to get a life. He got his nose so out of joint for something that has absolutely no negative impact on his life whatsoever."
