'I promised him' - Marco Silva makes Neco Williams Fulham future claim amid Liverpool exit rumours

Marco Silva has admitted that it is too early to talk about trying to keep Neco Williams at Fulham beyond the end of the season.

The Liverpool full-back moved to Craven Cottage in a loan deal back in January on transfer deadline day and has helped keep the West London club at the top of the Championship, needing just three more wins to secure a swift return to the Premier League.

Williams has made 11 appearances for Fulham so far, weighing in with three goals, but former Everton boss Silva accepts that there is a lot to work through before the prospect of retaining the 20-year-old - who signed a five year deal at Anfield in 2020 - can be considered.

As reported by West London Sport, Silva said: “It’s too early for us to think about or talk about it. Neco is fully focused in his role at this football club, we are focused on taking the best from him. I promised him in January he could come here and fight (for regular football) but the competition would be tough.

“He is improving each game, even in the last game against QPR where he didn’t start the game like we would have wanted him to because of the way they approached the game, he was much better second half. His intensity and the way he supported our offensive game has been fantastic and he is a young lad who always gives his best. I am pleased with the way he has adapted at our football club, but talking about his future is too early for us.”

Williams' form has seen him included in Wales' first team squad and the youngster will be keen to secure regular first team football next season, with the prospect of appearing in November's Qatar World Cup still alive.

Fulham attempting to sign Williams could be an expensive proposition, given his contract with Liverpool, but a year-long loan deal could be something that Jurgen Klopp would consider.
