'I named my daughter after a spice - I don't care that you think it's stupid'

A mum has faced backlash after revealing she named her daughter after a spice commonly used in soups and sauces. Brooke Scheurn and her partner welcomed their daughter Clove in March 2022 - and have been inundated with comments about her name ever since.

But in one of her latest TikTok videos, Brooke fought back at the cruel trolls condemning her for naming her daughter after an aromatic spice. In the clip, she shows viewers images and videos from Clove's first year at life, showing her crying in the delivery room to playing in their living room.

Alongside the pictures, she wrote: "Wow we can't believe you named your baby after a spice... us not caring because she is the cutest baby ever." But after her video racked up almost 13,000 views, Brooke received heartwarming comments from people complementing the baby name.

One user said: "She is so beautiful and her name is absolutely beautiful as well!"

Another user added: "Me and my partner have picked the name Clove for our baby as she is our lucky rainbow."

A third user said: "This is perfect - and why would people be bother by that. This is your daughter and you decided on her name."

One more user added: "I love the name! You do you!"

It comes after a man admitted to accidentally naming his nephew after a Pokémon when brainstorming names beginning with Z.

Taking to Reddit, the child's uncle said: "I was on a family vacation driving around the mountains and while in the van my little sister had her kid.

"The family is in celebration and apparently there was still a discussion on what the child's name would be. While they were discussing potentially unique names I kept overhearing they wanted it to begin with the letter Z, for whatever reason".

He went on to explain how he was playing Pokémon Sword on Nintendo Switch during the journey - and jokingly sought inspiration from the game.

"I had just caught Zacian with a quick ball. Truthfully, this was my second attempt at him and I just opened with it.

"I jokingly suggested, 'Hey Zacian is a cool name. It means sword in Japanese.' My mother and family loved it so it's now official.

"My older sister and girlfriend are the only ones that know the truth, so now we are getting some Pokémon related gifts for the baby to reveal the truth and make it a funny joke."

However, it turns out the uncle misunderstood the meaning of the word Zacian, with it actually just being 'Za' plus 'cyan'.

A statement on NintendoLife reads: "Zacian does not mean sword in Japanese. Zacian is just Za + cyan, just as Zamazenta, its legendary companion, is Za + magenta."

Commenting on the man's post, one user said: "It's not like the baby got the name Pikachu."

A third user said: ""I was expecting Squirtel as the kids name."

One more user added: "When my mum was pregnant with her fourth son, one of my other brothers insisted that the baby be named Cinderella. When the baby turned out to be a boy, he still insisted."
