'I'm terrified of my haunted house and won't go in basement where ghost chased my cat'

A 'freaked out' mum has confessed that she's now too scared to enter the basement of her "haunted" house alone after creepy CCTV footage shows what she believes to be a ghost chasing her cat.

Kathy Gallinger, 45, claims to have experienced a number of eerie occurrences ever since she first moved into her home back in August 2018.

This has included objects moving around on their own and eerie shadowy figures appearing from the darkness. However, one incident, in particular, has scared her more than any of the others.

After setting up a CCTV camera in her basement, Kathy, from Quinte West, Ontario, Canada, captured footage of what appears to be a "black mass" chasing her petrified cat, Salem, after emerging from her mother's old 1950s doll.

The video shows three-year-old Salem staring in the direction of the doll prior to the black mist emerging, looking to be in visible distress. The mass then drifts towards him, causing him to flee in apparent terror.

Kathy, who works as a call centre operator, says she has "become used" to the spooky goings-on at her home "scaring the life" out of her, and claims she's even avoided going down into the basement by herself at all costs.

Some have suggested that the family had digitally "edited" the chilling footage, but Kathy states that they work hard to "debunk" anything captured on CCTV, and is insistent that the footage is real.

Kathy explained: "My husband and I were really freaked out. I immediately called my psychic medium friend and she made me feel a little better because she said she wasn't getting any vibes where it's something that's out to get us, it's just something that wants its presence known.

"I think my house must be haunted. I love this house. The only way we'd consider moving was if it became violent or if anything was to harm any of us, of course. But as it stands right now, other than a few things moving and just scaring the life out of us, we've become used to it really".

The mum-of-one says her daughter Jayden Carveth, 20, was the one to convince her to share the ghostly goings-on at her house via TikTok, where she has since clocked up more than 600,000 followers and likes.

Kathy said: "My TikTok followers asked to put the camera in with the dolls overnight in the basement as that's where most of the activity is. The cat was down there and my daughter's bedroom is down there and she said the cat ran to her door.

"She heard him outside and let him in and he was clearly afraid of something. She said 'mum, you might want to check those cameras because the cat's crazy scared'".

She continued: "The next day we checked the cameras and what I saw was my cat staring at these dolls clearly frightened of something and then all of a sudden a black mass or mist formed from one of the dolls. I think it could be a ghost.

"Salem is my protector. That cat goes everywhere with me so if I do have to go downstairs and I'm nervous, he follows me. It's uncommon for him to show signs of being afraid like that".

Kathy says a psychic told her that the paranormal activity is connected to an incident that happened back in the 1980s after a group of teenagers possibly used a ouija board at the house.

A week or two can go by without any happenings. However, over the course of the last fortnight. the house is said to have become 'very active', which a friend suggested could be on account of the upcoming Easter holiday.

Kathy added: "We started noticing little things right away when we moved in.

"I'd get up in the morning and two or three kitchen cupboards would be open and back then we didn't even have security cameras set up and I'd blame my husband and would be like 'you got up in the night and didn't shut these cabinets' and he was like 'no I wasn't up in the night'.

"Or I'd look for my hairbrush which I keep in the upstairs bathroom and find it in our basement and my daughter was like 'I didn't take the brush down there'.

"It wasn't until one night we were sitting in our bedroom, I was reading a book and my closet doors started opening and closing by themselves. That's when my husband was like 'ok, something weird is going on here'.

"We've lived here four years and had a lot of spooky stuff happen and we've seen a lot of scary stuff - shadows figures even, but nothing has ever physically touched or harmed us".
