Joe Cole has urged Chelsea to agree a new contract with Mason Mount because they risk losing him to Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
The England international has reportedly become a target for Jurgen Klopp as part of his summer rebuild after it became clear contract talks at Stamford Bridge were not moving smoothly.
Mount will soon be entering the final year of his contract, but the Athletic have reported talks over a new deal have been put on hold until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old is said to have reportedly rejected several contract offers from Chelsea so far as he looks to be on par with the clubs highest earners.
Former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielder Cole told 90min: “He’s a leader [and] he sacrifices himself for the team. He wants to stay at Chelsea, I’m sure he does. I don’t for the life of me understand – and I don’t know the dealings, they’re probably far apart on where they’re valuing each other.
“He probably thinks: ‘Where do I sit?’. He’s out the team now, which is a dangerous position to be in for Mason and for Chelsea. Football is very fickle, we can forget what a good player Mason Mount is.
“I think Chelsea need to remember what a great player he is. He will come good. [Mount’s contract] would be the top of my list – there must be some middle ground to solve it.”
