Choosing a name, be it for a dog or child, can be difficult especially when you know you'll be shouting it out across busy parks or other public spaces.
You want a name to reflect your pooch's personality without being too generic or too long. Some seek inspiration from TV shows or books while others choose 'human' names or ask friends and family for advice.
One dog owner regrets asking her parents for their thoughts after her dad decided on a less than ideal name for her miniature dachshund, also known as a sausage dog. She took to Reddit to share her exasperation at his out there pick for her new pup.

The owner explained that her dog was named Bag, which translates into Tasche in German. As she shouts across the park, other owners often question her on the meaning behind this odd name.
She said: "It's a funny name for a dog in general but I hate it when people want to know her name from curiosity.
"It's just awkward for me, especially when they misunderstand her name and I have to repeat it."
Wanting to avoid this awkward encounter in the future, the owner is pleading with people to refrain from questioning a dog's name when it's something they haven't heard before.
"If you want to know, for example, the name of the dog of a pedestrian, and it's weird, don't question it," she added.
In a bid to reassure the owner, one person said: "You shouldn't be ashamed of your dog's unique name. I doubt that she minds her name. I would suggest not reading too much into people's curiosity.
"We named our dog Chipotle after the restaurant. It's an inside joke of my favourite place to eat when I met my wife.
"Most people want to know why, and this gives me an opportunity to have a nice conversation with a stranger. View it as a positive."
While another added: "If they're strangers you could just ignore them and pretend you don't hear or understand.
"If people misunderstand the name that feels normal, but if they're questioning or judging it that's not cool and I would just ignore them.
"Or you could make up a funny story like 'well she's so ugly that usually we make her wear a bag over her head' or something ridiculous that freaks people out even more than the name."
Sharing their own unusual dog names, one user said: "I rarely tell people my dog's full name, Finlaggan, because I don’t want questions.
"The name has deeper meaning to me, but basically she's named after a boat."
Another added: "My boyfriend has two cats - Gato and Girlfriend. Weird animal names are fun.
"People always think the name Girlfriend is weird, but he named her that because one day Gato, who used to be a stray, came home with her - and so it was like she was his girlfriend."
