'I’m not a royalist but I love Kate for this' - Mums praise Duchess for way she handled Louis

Mums have been praising the Duchess of Cambridge for the way she dealt with her young son in front of a global audience during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Prince Louis, four, stole the show with his hilarious reactions and gestures, which were seen by millions across the world. At one point the youngster covered his mother's mouth as she attempted to speak to him, shook his finger at her and blew her a raspberry.

Scores of people have been talking about the events on Mumsnet, with many praising Kate Middleton for the way she handled his cheeky behaviour.

A thread was started on the online parenting forum, titled 'I’m not a royalist but I love Kate for this', and a link was included to a short video clip showing what happened. A discussion then followed about how her parenting skills were on display to the whole world with a "recalcitrant four-year-old".

Praising the Duchess, one mum commented: "This is awesome! I love her," while another said: "Well done Kate! You deserve a day in bed yourself tomorrow."

One wrote: "He's only just turned four, she stopped it turning into a complete scene. I think it's good to see their kids behaving 'normally' & not like little robots. I think they all did really well this past few days. Kate especially."

Another message read: "God, it puts me into a cold sweat thinking about having to try to defuse a grumpy/overstimulated 4yo in front of a massive audience."

And one Mumsnet user wrote: "Totally agree. Kudos to her for managing without screens, colouring, drinks or snacks at that age. I think it was a lot to sit through for the older two, they must have been tired after last night. I hope they have tomorrow off school to recover."

There was also support for little Louis from mums who pointed out he was only four and had to sit through a long event.

One mum added: "It was a very long time for a four-year-old to sit still. I thought she managed him very well and it was so sweet seeing him sit on Prince Charles' lap. They obviously have a very close relationship."

Several parents said it wasn't always easy to keep young children entertained when out and about.

"I thought she did a fantastic job keeping it together yesterday and today," said one mum. "I took my four-year-old for lunch today with family. Despite having her favourite aunt there, she also needed three different activity books and colouring pencils to keep her busy while waiting for food."
