‘I’m not a model!’ Selena Gomez hits back at body-shamers over her weight

Selena Gomez has hit back at “body-shamers” by saying "I’m not a model".

The 30-year-old star, who was diagnosed with Lupus in 2014, also revealed that the medication she takes for the autoimmune condition has caused her to retain "a lot of water weight".

"[When I’m taking lupus meds, I] tend to hold a lot of water weight, and that happens very normally," she said on a TikTok video. "When I’m off of it, I tend to lose weight.”

She also expressed love to fans who feel “any sort of shame for exactly what they’re going throug.”

"I just want people to know that you’re beautiful, and you’re wonderful," she continued. "Yeah, we have days where maybe we feel like s**t, but I would rather be healthy and take care of myself.

"My medications are important, and I believe that they’re what helps me."

"Not a model, never will be," she added. "And I think they’re awesome (models), mind you.

“I’m just definitely not that. I just wanted to tell you I love you guys, and thanks for supporting me and understanding and if not, go away, because honestly I don’t believe in shaming people for [their bodies] or anything."

Lupus is an autoimmune disorder that occurs when the immune system attacks the body’s connective tissue, injuring, and sometimes, destroying vital organs such as the joints, kidneys, and the heart.

Along with a series of side effects, including joint pain and rashes, sufferers may experience weight fluctuations and swelling.

Last month, the singer and actress clarified that her shaking hands were a result of her medication after fans pointed out that she appeared "unsteady" in a skincare routine video for her brand Rare Beauty.
