'I'm Ms GB but can't find love - I've been on 100 awful dates and men never chat me up'

Dating can be a pretty gruelling game to be in no matter what sort of profession you've chosen to pursue, and this is apparently just as true for beauty queens as it is for the rest of us.

Former Ms Great Britain April Banbury, of Hemel Hempsted, Hertfordshire, claims to have given up on finding love altogether after going on more than 100 dates and says men tend to vanish before the fourth date.

The 32-year-old beauty queen, who now works as a wedding dress designer, says she never gets chatted up or approached while out and about, meaning she's had to turn to online dating to seek romance.

However, she doesn't hold out much hope of finding a suitable boyfriend anytime soon.

Speaking with The Sun, April said: "In my line of work, I am surrounded by brides-to-be and they ask if I’m married and when I say ‘no’, they always go, ‘Why not?’ Like it’s a certainty! I’ve been on more than 100 dates now and I’m done".

Like many other singletons out there, April has unfortunately also endured her fair share of nightmare dates, including a man who kept making excuses and cancelling dates, and another who kept taking business calls while they were still out on their date.

Opening up about one particularly awkward date from hell, April recalled how he'd looked absolutely nothing like his profile pic and couldn't stop sneezing.

She remembered: "Snot ran down his nose and he kept wiping it on the back of his hand. There was a trail of snot on his hand and he was doing it continuously. I made an excuse - the first thing that came into my head - and said, ‘I’ve got a meeting tomorrow and I need to be up at 6 am'".

The daughter of Olympic cyclist Ian Banbury, April was crowned Ms Great Britain - a new competition for beauty queens over the age of 28 - back in February 2020.
