'I'm happy I can save it': Viral influencer buys old Glasgow Subway train

A POPULAR influencer known for his love of trains has saved an old Glasgow Subway carriage.

Francis Bourgeois, a content creator with millions of followers across social media platforms, is best known for his love of trains and frequently shares videos of him trainspotting.

Bourgois – not his real name – has previously spoken of his love for the Subway, visiting Glasgow as the legacy fleet was retired from service.

(Image: Francis Bourgeois, via Youtube) In his latest video entitled "I Have Bought a Train", posted to his YouTube channel on Sunday, the influencer showed himself arriving to Glasgow on the Caledonian Sleeper.

He then went on to purchase one of the 1980s Metro-Cammell trains which were retired from the city's subway system last year, replaced by 17 modern, wheelchair-accessible trains built by Stadler Rail.

In the video, Bourgois said: "This is the reason for my trip to Glasgow –  I've bought a Glasgow Subway power car.

"This was only in service a couple of months ago, and would otherwise have been totally scrapped, ripped to shreds never to be seen again.

"I'm just happy that I'm able to save it."

The carriage, which is the 107 power car,  was then pictured being hauled on to the back of a lorry, before heading "to its new home".

Bourgeois did not say what he planned to do with the train.

One user who claimed they used to drive the exact train Bourgois had purchased commented: "107 was one of the good ones! I spent hundreds of hours driving that one ... I’m jealous, I’d love to have one of these units! Congrats"

Another social media user said: "Thank you so much again for saving a piece of my city's history, it means a lot knowing that you will love and cherish the train and always keep it in it's best condition. Its amazing to think that you now own a rare train and get so much pleasure from it. You should be proud of yourself for what you have done by saving the train from getting ruthlessly scrapped."
