'I'm changing my name to Wednesday - I'm a 6ft man and don't care if it's weird'

While we can't choose our names from birth, we always have an option to change them later in life. That's exactly what one man is planning to do - but he knows his family and friends might judge him for it.

The bodybuilder, who lives in America, explained how almost everybody pronounces his name wrong because it's spelt in such a 'unique' way. He said: "My original name is basically unpronounceable by anyone but a small group of people - and the way they pronounce it's just terrible. Official transcription makes it so much worse. I would never spell my name like this. No wonder people are so confused about it."

He went on to explain how he wants to change his name to Wednesday as popularity for the name has increased in recent months thanks to Netflix's Wednesday.

"I have little to no connection with my past and want to have even less," he added. "Changing my name would be a good milestone on my journey to my own future.

"I like Wednesday as a name. I was born on Wednesday. I feel somewhat connected to the TV show character.

"I think it's going to confuse people in a funny way (I'm a 6.1 bodybuilder and I'm 35+ years old). I don't mind it being a little bit ridiculous."

However, he admits to being slightly concerned about how changing his name could impact his future.

He asked on Reddit: "Would that name be completely inappropriate for my everyday life? What do you think about it as a first name? What people might think about me when I introduce myself?"

While most users encouraged him to go through with the name change, others shared their reservations claiming it's a "female name" or "too associated" with Wednesday Addams.

One user said: "I like it. I have never heard it for a man - as long as you are okay standing out I say go for it.

"There's some risk it might be kind of trendy with the show. I would probably say 'Wednesday like the day of the week?'

"Wes is a common men's name and would be a good nickname."

Another user added: "It's very out there. Some people would consider it unusable for a grown man, some jobs might not take you seriously. Regular people might not take you seriously.

"If you're changing your name legally I would use a real normal human name, and go by Wednesday as a nickname if you're so attached to it."

A third user said: "Wednesday, the day of the week is named after Odin, a male god, so it should be fine. You could also go with Odin or Woden. Yes, in pop culture it's made famous by a young woman but so what?"

One more user added: "I find days-of-the-week as names odd and often a little try-hard for babies, but I love the idea of it as a chosen name - especially for a guy with the confidence to pull it off. I say go for it!

"Possible nicknames could be Wes, Des, or (my favourite) Ness."
