I'm a Rangers-mad X-Factor winner - here's how I was nutmegged by Ally McCoist

2012 X-Factor winner James Arthur has revealed how he he was nutmegged by Ally McCoist after getting a surprise visit to Rangers' training ground.

Arthur, 37, has backed the Ibrox side from a young age through his father, who is a diehard supporter.

And the singer has recently revealed that his personal security guard helped organise a visit to the club when Ally McCoist was in charge.

Arthur lifted the lid on how it went down: "My dad is a big Rangers fan and I've grew up with him force-feeding me Rangers footage," he said [FTT via Record].

"I am half-Scottish, so Rangers are my second team and they invited me for a kickaround when Ally McCoist was manager.

"My security guard hooked it up.

"They planned it as a surprise for me - I'd just rolled off a tour bus, was wearing glasses, and Ally megged me straight away! Magic."

Arthur is one of several famous Rangers fans, including Gordon Ramsey, Marti Pellow and Amy MacDonald, to name but a few.

He will likely have kept one eye on his team's Europa League quarter-final first leg with Athletic Club on Thursday evening.

Rangers earned an admirable goalless draw after going down to 10 men in the early stages as a result of Robin Propper's dismissal.

They travel to Bilbao next week for the second leg: "We're still in the tie," said interim head coach Barry Ferguson post-match.

"I said to them before the game, we need to make sure we're in this tie. And certainly the tie is there for us to go in and try and get through into the semi-finals.

"But it's the same for Bilbao. They're still in the tie. They're at home. But we'll go and give it our best shot. We'll set it up in a way that it'll try and get us, hopefully, into the semi-final."
