I'm a Rangers-mad La Liga striker combining with Ibrox flop to evade relegation

Oli McBurnie and Fabio Silva were in fine fettle for Las Palmas on Saturday as they claimed a significant victory in their fight against relegation from La Liga.

Silva, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Rangers, drew the Gran Canarian side level away at Getafe.

Well-known Rangers fan McBurnie then made it 2-1 just after the hour mark, sweeping home with his left foot from inside the box.

The points were sealed not long after, with Silva racing through on goal and lobbing opposition keeper David Soria.

The 3-1 victory puts Las Palmas just a point behind Deportivo Alaves, who sit 17th in the table; the teams who finish 18th, 19th, and 20th are relegated.

While Las Palmas are currently 18th, with eight games to go, they yet hold out hope of maintaining their status as a La Liga side.

Both McBurnie and Silva have been key for them of late. The Scottish striker now has two goals in as many games after failing to score in the league all campaign, and the man who flopped at Ibrox last campaign took his seasonal tally to 10 with his brace versus Getafe.

Silva is now just one goal away from equally the most he has ever scored in a single term throughout his career.

Las Palmas next weekend face the might of Atletico Madrid, before coming up against Rangers' Europa League foes Athletic Club a few days later. Despite an arduous run of fixtures, their great escape remains very much on.
