I'm a home tech editor and this Dyson vacuum is my best-on-test – and it's on sale right now with $170 off at Walmart

Dyson V15 Detect Floorhead on hardwood floor.

I'm Homes & Gardens' home tech editor and I test, review and write about vacuum cleaners on a near-daily basis, and one of Dyson's best vacuums, the V15 Detect, is at its lowest price I've seen in months.

Topping many of our vacuum cleaner guides with unrivaled suction power and unique features, the Dyson V15 Detect is on sale at Walmart for just $579.99. It's usually at a price point that's out-of-reach for many, (and its only real downside) so this $170 discount is a welcomed change this sale season.

It's the best vacuum for pet hair that we've ever tested, thanks to powerful, responsive suction power and anti-tangle cleaner heads, and it would be the best vacuum we've ever tested if Dyson hadn't released the newer Gen5detect. The Gen5detect costs short of $1,000 however, so I only recommend that to people with the money to spare.

I've dived into its price history and this is the cheapest the Dyson V15 Detect has been found anywhere, at Dyson or at other retailers, for 120 days, and potentially even longer. So, make sure to grab it before it's back up again.

Why we love the Dyson V15 Detect

Our expert tester Jaclyn Turner reviewed the Dyson V15 Detect and found it to be virtually perfect. It's part of Dyson's flagship series of vacuum cleaners, including the Gen5detect and the V12 Detect Slim, and it's engineered with unique features to set it apart from competitors.

Most famously, it features a green laser that reveals dust and particles that the naked eye can't see. This isn't at all a gimmick (I can attest to this personally from using the V12 Detect Slim), it genuinely illuminates hidden dust. So much so that it's almost alarming how much lives in our floors without us noticing. Even this feature alone is enough for me to say that the Dyson laser vacuums are worth your money.

Other features behind the 'Detect' name include a Piezo sensor that counts individual particles that are picked up, so you know exactly which parts of the floor are dirtier, as well as automatic, responsive suction whenever it's needed. If the dust levels are high, or if you're moving onto carpets or rugs, the V15 Detect will automatically up the suction power so nothing's left behind.

The suction power is no joke either. No matter what you're cleaning – whether it's pet hair, dust, crumbs or powders – the V15 Detect can pick it all up in a single pass, regardless of the floor type. To maximize this cleaning power, you get separate floor heads for hard floors and carpets which you can switch between in a matter of seconds to give your floors the best treatment.

Now, the big one: pet hair. The V15 Detect is our best vacuum for pet hair for good reason. The anti-tangle Motorbar cleaner head makes light work of pulling pet hair from deep within the carpet fibers, and it avoids hair-wrap at all costs. You also get a smaller anti-tangle hair screw tool for things like furniture, curtains, or tight spaces.

'I took the Anti-Tangle Hair Screw tool to task on my dog's lounge mat, and it is one of the only vacuum tools I've tried that not only revived the faux-sherpa bottom that is an absolute magnet for dirt but brightened the fleece top from a dusty blue back to its original turquoise,' Jaclyn shared from her tests.

It's the FluffyOptic cleaner head that features the green laser, and it's designed specifically for hard floors. So, for any tile, wooden, laminate or linoleum floors, this is likely the best cleaning performance you can get.

The vacuum also uses an LED screen that displays suction mode (either eco, auto or boost), remaining battery life, and how many particles you've picked up in this session.

The battery life adjusts depending on suction mode. If you're on eco, you'll get the full 60 minutes runtime. Auto is the mode which automatically adjusts between low and high suction when it's needed, to preserve the battery life for dustier areas or carpet flooring. Staying on boost will reduce the battery life significantly, and it won't be able to run for too long without needing a break as it's so powerful.

Basically, this is the full cleaning package. It can handle everything in your home (as it's so lightweight, you can even clean your curtains and shelves with ease), and it boasts the kind of tech that other brands have tried to imitate. $579.99 is still relatively steep, but it's the lowest price we've seen in a long time, and it's definitely worth it.

Still out of your price range? Instead, consider one of our best Dyson alternatives or best cordless vacuums.
