Viewers have been angered by Sue Cleaver and Chris Moyles 'bitching' about Matt Hancock behind his back in Saturday night's edition of I'm A Celebrity Get me Out of Here!
The Coronation Street actress has questioned how genuine her fellow campmate Matt Hancock is being in the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle. As the former health secretary was away from the camp completing a challenge with Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner, the topic turned to the contestant’s feeling towards the MP.
Cleaver said: “In his world he’s intelligent but he’s not worldly wise in other ways. He doesn’t live in the same world. I mean, I’ve really tried to like open up, talk, be nice and everything. I always feel there’s something that’s not quite genuine.
“I find it really hard to get past that, that time when he did that whole thing and he said he was really emotional and he says ‘I’ve come in here to ask for forgiveness’, I actually thought he was being authentic and I gave him a hug.
“And then I want to be nice, I want to be friendly, I want to do all the right things but I just don’t believe I’m getting anything genuine.”
Radio DJ Chris Moyles added: “I believe a lot of the politicians that you see on TV and radio are part of a big boys’ club, it’s career politics, they don’t give too shiny shites about making a difference in the people, it’s all to do with furthering their career in politics and what they can get out of it.
“And when I have that mindset, and then I meet someone like Matt Hancock, I’m like… my back goes up immediately.”
On twitter, @MrsLoweezy said: "The whole camp bitchin’ behind Matt’s back but of course led by Sue and Chris." She also posted a string of emojis suggesting she thought they were a bunch of snakes.
And @GiallorossiBlue tweeted: "What a surprise, the cowardly backstabbing weasels (Mike, Sue especially, and Chris) **** talking Matt Hancock whilst he is away from the camp. Jill is also not as innocent as she seems, she makes bullying comments and laughs so people take it as a joke."
Evie James fumed: "Oh SHUT UP CHRIS AND SUE! Can you all stop talking **** behind Matt’s back when he’s out trying to get you food. Sue, Chris, George and Mike to go with the next eviction. "
Tweeting on Friday, before Saturday night's incident. @salslovespink raged: "These lefty Matt haters make my blood boil. Sue, Chris, George and Charlene are weak.
"All have failed to outperform Matt in the trials. Yet none give him credit. All scared by tiny non-venomous insects/reptiles & a bit of water. Pathetic. Charlene in particular."
Chris Jones said: "Let's vote off the backstabbing snakes who constantly carp behind Matt Hancocks back... Sue, Chris and Ole Boy George. They're such a nasty lot."
The conversation came as Matt Hancock and Owen Warner teamed up for the latest Deals On Wheels challenge where the MP had to guide the actor to complete a series of puzzles. The games included working a ball around a circular maze and trying to catch a ball as it dropped through a large cage.
The pair completed the challenge but camp failed to correctly answer how many romantic partners Warner’s Hollyoaks character Romeo has had. The rest of the camp guessed four but it was actually five, losing everyone a cheese board treat.
Seann Walsh lamented how bad they were at the questions, joking: “We are not sleeping until all of us have told everyone their life story inside out, I want to know how many boxers you have owned in your life.”
The former Health Secretary has taken over the role of the camp’s chef on I’m A Celebrity after Loose Women star Charlene White became the first contestant to be voted out. Following her departure, the camp’s deputy Sue Cleaver pointed out the role needed to be filled, with camp leader Mike Tindall appointing MP Hancock to the job.
He said: “My first thought is Matt, the dunny’s a two-minute job, so I thought three tasks is easier.” The former health secretary agreed to his new role without fuss.
