I'm A Celebrity stars and families dealt hotel 'blow' by ITV as they arrive in Australia

I'm A Celebrity star campmates and their families are being dealt a major blow as soon as they arrive in Australia as they won't be staying in the plush Palazzo Versace Hotel that stars from many past series have lapped up the luxury. Instead, ITV bosses have decided to take over a Marriott hotel instead.

This year will see I'm A Celebrity return Down Under for the first time in three years, with the Covid pandemic throwing plans into chaos and forcing production to be moved from the Aussie jungle to a castle in Wales. Fans and hosts Ant and Dec are very excited about the show being in Australia again but one thing that will be missing is the Versace, the place featured in many Coming Out specials after the main series has finished and the hotel where many celebs' nearest and dearest have taken full advantage of as their loved ones rough it in camp.

Rooms at the Palazzo Versace are said to start at £1,000, whereas the prices at the JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort and Spa start at a slightly more affordable £256. On the decision to switch bases, a source told The Sun: "ITV has used the Versace ever since the series came to Queensland in 2004. Those classic scenes of the muddy, exhausted celebs arriving in the glamorous, gleaming lobby are part of I’m A Celeb’s very fabric.

"The new hotel is lovely, but just different to the bouji opulence of the Versace, which is so well-known to viewers.”

This year's I'm A Celebrity line-up has now been 'confirmed' in its entirety as many of the stars involved land in Australia. Big names heading for the jungle this time round include Boy George, Mike Tindall, Jill Scott and Sue Cleaver.

The new series will get going with an extended launch episode on Sunday, November 6 at 9pm.
