I'm a Celebrity star Sue Cleaver reveals she met birth mother after 'spooky' encounter

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver opened up to fellow campmates on meeting her birth mother after a 'spooky' chance encounter. The soap actress, who was raised by her adoptive family as a child, had an emotional conversation with campmates on this evening's edition of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!

The 59-year-old unexpectedly bumped into her birth mother when she was in her early twenties at drama school. Sue recalled the chance meeting as she confided in jungle co-stars about being adopted. The soap star said: "It was when I was at drama school, I was about 22/24 and Royal Exchange were looking for little tiny parts for Oedipus."

Sue - who has been praised by fans of the ITV show for raising awareness of diabetes - then explained that when she walked in, a fellow actor remarked: "Oh my god, she’s the absolute double of my wife when I met her."

The Mirror reports that after questioning Sue on her date of birth, the man then asked "Oh, so where were you born?’"

"And I went, 'Barnet'," Sue continued, before continuing to recall the actor ringing his wife and declaring: "I’ve found her."

The celebrity campmates were left stunned at the emotional tale, with Lioness Jill Scott saying Nah, that has just given me goosebumps!" after Scarlette Douglas declared "What!"

Comedian Babatúndé Aleshe was also left shocked by the chance meeting, saying: "That’s spooky! That’s mad."

Sue then revealed that she had two half sisters who were all in the business and after she finished sharing the experience, Jill told the star "That is the most incredible story I think I’ve ever heard".

Sue concluded saying: "It’s lovely because my mum and my birth mother, we’ve all met, been out for dinner, we’ve all kept in touch, so we’ve all had lovely relationship ever since, so it’s a nice ending. I’m very lucky."

The Coronation Street star has been praised by I'm A Celebrity viewers for raising awareness of diabetes during her time in the jungle.

Earlier this week, one Twitter user asked: "Does Sue Cleaver have diabetes? I thought I spotted an insulin arm patch on her and now she’s exempt from the eating trial."

Although the patch on Sue's arm hasn't been confirmed, it is believed to be a Dexcom which is something used by people with diabetes.

Sue's Type 2 diabetes diagnosis first became public knowledge back in 2011, when the soap star received hospital treatment after collapsing on the set of Coronation Street.

Type 2 diabetes is when the sufferer's body cannot produce enough insulin. In the UK, around 90% of all adults with diabetes have Type 2.

As Sue seemingly wears a Dexcom on I'm A Celebrity, fans of the show have been praising the actress for normalising living life with diabetes and not hiding her monitor.
