I'm A Celebrity's Owen Warner a 'real threat' to rivals as odds on winning shorten

Owen Warner looks set to pose a 'real threat' to his I'm A Celebrity rivals over the coming week as he is the contestant that has seen their odds shorten drastically over the last few days.

Hollyoaks star Owen, best known to fans for playing Romeo Nightingale in the Channel 4 soap, was in the middle of the pack when it came to bookies' odds in the immediate aftermath of the line-up being officially confirmed for the new series of I'm A Celebrity. He gave viewers a slice of TV gold in the launch episode earlier this month, when he was absolutely clueless as to who co-star Scarlette Douglas was.

After a rather quiet first week in the jungle, being overshadowed by outspoken campmates like Boy George and the late arrivals of Matt Hancock and Seann Walsh, Owen got some time in the spotlight on Saturday when he joined ex Health Secretary Matt in the Who Wants to Look a Fool on Air trial and will be in trial action again on Thursday night in Scareground.

Owen has had a grim time of things on I'm A Celeb in terms of coping with hunger, complaining of being 'absolutely starving,' although his predicament looks set to change thanks to the beach barbecue prize revealed aby Ant and Dec on Wednesday.

And, as he is firmly in the frame for a trip out of camp, experts also think he is coming more and more into the picture as potential winner. The latest odds from bookmakers William Hill now have Owen as second favourite on 5/2, behind overwhelming hot tip Jill Scott, who is ahead of the pack on 11/10.

Lee Phelps, a spokesperson for William Hill said: “Owen has what it takes to win the show, he's likeable and isn't afraid to get involved in the trials.

“Doing the trial with the other strong favourites could play to his advantage if he performs well he could shoot to the top spot.

“He is obviously liked by the public as well as going down well in camp, he isn’t causing any tension and every day he comes across as likeable.”
