I'm A Celebrity's Mike Tindall opens up on wife Zara's home birth and boozy first date confession

Mike Tindall has revealed the story behind his wife Zara Phillip 's home birth after a midwife insisted she wouldn't make it to the hospital.

The former England rugby centre, now aged 44, married into the Royal Family in 2011, when he and Princess Anne's daughter Zara tied the knot in Edinburgh. During Thursday night's episode of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here, Mike discussed the stories behind the births of their children.

He said: “Lucas was rapid. Third one. As we got our stuff to go to hospital, she (Zara) got out of the bath, she could barely stand, she was shaking. The midwife was like, ‘She’s not making the hospital.’

“She was like, ‘You don’t want to be delivering in the car.’ Into the gym, two gym mats down in the bathroom. But yeah.”

Of whether Zara, who is the niece of King Charles, was in pain, he said: “She was, it was fast though, from that moment. She almost choked me to death. You can’t say anything can you? ‘Can you let go, you’re really hurting me?!’”

It comes after Mike previously revealed the two first met at the Manly Wharf bar in Sydney during the 2003 Rugby World Cup. The former England rugby player said: “I was at the World Cup, she was out watching.

“I got dropped from the semi-final. I was pissed off and so I went for a beer with another guy who got dropped and a guy who was over [in Sydney]. They'd met her before and they introduced us and then got chatting."

He continued: “First actual date, just went out for lunch locally. And ended up being quite a boozy one. Then we figured out that we both quite like getting smashed. It was a good start."

Campmate Owen Warner asked: "So if you never got dropped you never would have met her?" Mike stated it was the “best decision of [former England rugby coach] Clive Woodward's life”.

The campmates also discussed their grooming habits in tonight's episode. Telling his co-stars about how he looks after himself, Boy George admitted: “Once a week I get my beard done, I get my eyebrows done, I get my eyelashes done, I get the haircut, I get everything shaved, chest, everything.”

Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner soon asked why he gets someone else to shave his chest to which Boy George replied: “He also does down there, too," before Scarlette Douglas chimed in: “Back, sack and crack!”

Owen added in the Bush Telegraph: “Sounds painful. George has got some balls on him, I’ve got to say. Some very well waxed balls.” Discussing the pain in camp the soap actor added: “I’m not saying it would be worse than childbirth!”

I'm A Celebrity airs every night at 9pm on STV and STV Hub.
