Politician Matt Hancock had a snake slither up his shorts during Monday's edition of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! The Tory MP had to come face to face with a whole host of creepy crawlies during Deserted Down Under – his sixth consecutive Bushtucker Trial.
The 44-year-old, who admitted to having a fear of snakes, was introduced to his latest task by the ITV show's presenters Ant and Dec who explained he'd have to "lie down in this underground pit". Dec added: "The stars are locked to the side of you and to unlock them you need to retrieve the keys which are inside the hell holes.
"This is a Bushtucker Trial so the chances are you won’t be alone in the pit. There may be a few surprises along the way." Hancock then had 11 minutes to unlock all 11 stars amid an army of bugs but soon started to struggle as the reptiles began to appear.
And, despite trying to think of his new neighbours as completely normal additions to his subterranean bunker, the difficulty finding the corresponding padlock for keys he was holding only got worse. Then, four minutes in, he exclaimed: "I can’t get this done," before adding: "Something’s going up my leg - it’s inside my shorts!"
At one point the lights went out and Hancock was left to complete the rest of the challenge in the dark. By the end of the trial he'd only managed to win seven stars out of a possible 11.
And while that wasn't quite enough to fully feed his campmates Hancock described the experience as a personal triumph. "I just managed to keep really calm and be gentle with them but they were fine," he said. "My biggest fear [was snakes]. I kind of feel like I’ve faced that – I've conquered a fear."
