I'm A Celebrity's Chris Moyles admits he's "not great" with confrontation, but he used to reprimand his colleagues live on air because it was "safer".
The former Radio 1 DJ - who has struggled to confront MP Matt Hancock with questions but voiced his disapproval behind his back - used to give people a telling off when the nation was listening to his breakfast show to avoid "bottling it" in person.
Chris, 48, said: "I'm not great with confrontation, weirdly. I'd rather do it on the air. Back in the day, we used to do that on the air and I'd get really annoyed. But it was safer to do it on the radio. There are people who hate me and think I'm a scumbag because I'd just shout and berate people.
"But if I was to do that off the air, I would either bottle it, because I don't want the confrontation of it, because it's awkward, or I might say too much or say the wrong thing.
"But on the radio if I'm b ** ing someone I'm restricted what language I can use and what I can say, and I want to turn it into a bit and be entertaining, even if it might be a bit skin-crawly and awkward. But everyone who has worked on the show has earnt their place.
"There's things I've said on the radio in the past I wouldn't say now. There's bits I've done that I wouldn't necessarily do now.
"But at the same time, I kind of feel the pressure is off a little bit because I'm not 25 talking to a bunch of late teenagers and early 20s, I'm talking to anybody who will listen. I don't care what age the listener is."
These comments in a recent interview could explain why he has ben happy to attack Hancock in the Bush Telegraph which is a similar environment to a radio studio, but less to his face in camp compared with Charlene White and Scarlette Douglas.
Despite now taking part in the ITV reality show, Chris - who hosts The Chris Moyles Breakfast Show on Radio X - admits he isn't great with authority and has an "amazing lazy streak".
Asked on The Kempcast podcast if he doesn't like being told what to do and when to do it, he said: "I think that's fair. I think that's a trait I get from my dad. He's never been good with authority at all.
"I get a good worth ethic from my dad, but equally I get an amazing lazy streak. That's not from my dad, I don't know who that is from. I'm really lazy.
"I do love it [his job] and if I'm doing something I really love it's not a job, and that can be anything.
"But I've never had a proper job. You've got to work hard, because you'll get found out in this line of work. But it's not a proper job."
