I'm A Celebrity's Carol Vorderman scolded a curious follower who asked about her "special friends" during a Q&A session on Instagram. Carol became a campmate once again as the opening episode of I'm A Celebrity... South Africa aired last night as she and other memorable past contestants arrived for the first edition of the spin-off series.
Carol was the first star to arrive on top of a South African mountain, before being joined by Amir Khan and Jordan Banjo. The trio were swiftly informed that they had to chuck themselves off a plank jutting off the side of the mountain, whilst attached to a bungee cord, and remember the number at the bottom of the drop that would then unlock a star.
Each star equated to a meal for camp, and Carol, Amir and Jordan managed to score three. After the first episode aired, Carol, 62, spoke to her fans on Instagram Live last night, joined by her son Cameron, who she introduced to everyone as they sat on the sofa together.

In the social media broadcast, Carol shared what it was like to watch back the terrifying moment that she stepped off the plank, which was placed 50m above the South African wilderness, before asking her fans if they had any questions for her about the new series. But the discussion moved off topic when Carol, who is also mum to Katie from her marriage to Patrick King, was queried about her "special friends" by one follower.
Carol has been very open about her "five special friends" in recent times, opting to spend time with the men rather than pursue a conventional, monogamous relationship. But, as the Clifton resident responded to the questions fans had sent her via Instagram, she paused to scold the "cheeky" fan for asking about her love life.
"No, I don’t have any special friends with me tonight," Carol said, bursting out laughing and turning around to face her son before giving the fan a telling off. She said: "Cheeky monkey!"
Carol quickly moved onto a different question as another follower asked how she was at home in the UK watching the series, rather than in camp. Unlike the original series, which is filmed live in Australia, the new South African series was filmed back in September 2022.
Ahead of her second jungle stint, Carol confessed that she was excited to return to South Africa after finding love there as a 19-year-old. She said: "I can't wait to take part in this new series.
"I loved everything about I'm A Celebrity. I went to South Africa when I was 19.
"I met the first love of my life when I was working on an engineering construction site. My boss was 24 and we fell in love.
"His next job was in Botswana and I flew over. There were giraffes running around and I swam with great white sharks.
"I've not been on a safari for 40 years and I can't wait now to do the Trials. I will try everything and I will try my absolute best."
