I'm a Celebrity latest: Nick Knowles gets his knickers in a twist over underwear debate with John Barrowman

I’m a Celebrity’s Nick Knowles clashed with John Barrowman over a pair of knickers drying near the camp fire.

The DIY SOS got his knickers in a twist over the undergarment when they fell from the washing line hanging up in camp, before politely asking Barrowman to pick them up.

Knowles said: “I don’t feel comfortable handling women’s knickers but they are wet and need drying so would you hang them on the line?”

But the Torchwood actor was quick to rebuke the camp leader, asking: “Why do you feel uncomfortable, it’s just an item of clothing, it’s not inappropriate.”

Fighting back: John Barrowman made his case against Nick Knowles' point (ITV/REX)

Emily Atack then chimed in and said that she could “understand” Knowles point of view about feeling “awkward picking up a young woman’s knickers” after knowing them only a week.

Barrowman challenged: “Then why is it ok for me a gay man to pick it up but it’s not ok for a straight man? It’s just a piece of clothing.

“Touching a pair of knickers doesn’t mean you want to have sex with them, there are no sexual connotations at all.

“She might have a problem with me picking up her knickers but I don’t have a problem with it, I do laundry, it’s no big deal!”

The exchange sparked a debate in camp about what the campmates do and don’t do in front of their partners, with Fleur East admitting some of her best conversations take place in the toilet.

But fan-favourite Harry Redknapp put all crude chat to bed, saying: “I wouldn’t fart in front of my wife and she wouldn’t do it in front of me.”

I’m A Celebrity continues Thursday at 9pm on ITV.
