I'm A Celebrity jungle 'flooded' after four days of torrential rain as stars face evacuation risk

The I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! jungle has reportedly been flooded after four days of torrential tropical rain.

This year’s ITV contestants could face evacuation as relentless storms have battered the camp in Springbrook National Park, Murwillumbah, since Monday, when the area was first hit by thunder and lightning.

The celebrities entered the camp during Sunday night’s launch and have been enduring the severe weather ever since.

Fallen trees have blocked the road leading to the camp, while cars were seen struggling through flooded rivers in photos obtained by MailOnline.

The downpour has forced local Australian businesses to close as rising water levels pose a "significant risk" of flooding from the nearby Moonie River, experts have warned.

“The jungle camp cannot cope with this level of rain and the thing is, when it rains like this, it's not fun for anyone involved,” a show insider told MailOnline.

“In fact, it's miserable. It dampens the mood and ultimately ruins the show.”

The celebrities - which include Coleen Rooney, Strictly’s Oti Mabuse, and Maura Higgins this year - usually shelter in the Bush Telegraph hut where they speak to the camera during storms.

There is also a retractable canopy 50 foot in the air above the camp which prevents the stars from getting totally soaked and keeps the fire lit.

They could be evacuated as a safety procedure if the current storms continue, as seen in previous years.

However, the deluge is due to end on Friday and campmates can then enjoy around four days of dry weather.

During Thursday’s episode, hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly hid underneath umbrellas and joked: “It's raining Koalas and Dingos here.”

McFly star Danny Jones admitted earlier this week that he hasn’t showered during the rain.

“Since it's rained I've not washed. Don't fight it, just stink! What do spiders do? They don't get up and shower, do they? They just go 'I'm gonna go out for the day,’” he said.

Love Island’s Higgins and Reverend Richard Coles entered the camp on Thursday night as late entries to the competition.
