Fans of I'm A Celebrity …Get Me Out Of Here! are threatening to boycott the show after it was revealed that the 12 th and final contestant in this year’s line-up is former Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
Hancock was the wildcard that has shocked the nation ahead of the hit ITV show starting next week.
But the news has been met with intense backlash from some fans who don’t think he should be appearing in the Australian jungle.
The MP for West Suffolk – who has been suspended by the Conservative Party since the announcement – has been met with widespread condemnation from everyone from his furious constituents who feel they’ve been “abandoned” to ordinary viewers who are still livid over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Taking to Twitter, furious fans have threatened to boycott the show, citing his lockdown-rule-breaking affair and the unnecessary deaths of thousands from Covid-19.
“Maybe we should boycott #ImACeleb?” one fan suggested. “Having @MattHancock on trivialises the deaths of 10s of thousands and isn’t a matter for entertainment. The man had to resign in shame for breaking rules he would imprison us for breaking. This is not acceptable.”
Another tweeted: “So can we all agree to boycott #ITV‘s #ImACeleb if @MattHancock is one of the contestants? #BoycottImACeleb
A third wrote: “Prepared to boycott I'm a celeb for bringing Matt Hancock into the show - no one wants to see this guy ever again #ImACeleb”
Another wasn’t a viewer but penned: “I Don't watch #ImACeleb . I know many do, and enjoy it for its' escapism. Please, please, please, boycott it while #MattHancock is on it.”
An angry viewer wrote: “Matt Hancock monetising his abysmal and disastrous reputation as an MP is abhorrent. 1000’s of britains dead, Billions of tax payer money wasted, due to decisions he took. Shameful by Hancock & @ITV #Boycott #ImACeleb”
Another wrote: “Should boycott @ITV getting the #ToryScum @MattHancock in for #ImACeleb utter disgrace. Shambolic decision knowing full well the antics he was part of during the pandemic. Well done @ITV”
Another said: “Embarrassing by #ITV for having Matt Hancock on #ImACeleb get me out of here. This man broke COVID rules in a leadership role for the government and is now getting financially rewarded and further tv time that he doesent warrant. I hope people boycott the show because of this.”
Others called on Ant and Dec to boycott the show, with one writing: “@antanddec should boycott #ImACeleb and refuse to present the show as a result of @Conservatives @MattHancock being signed up for the show.”
