First Dates maître-d Fred Sirieix slammed Nigel Farage for having “destroyed the economy” during a tense row over Brexit on day seven of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
The former UKIP leader had been discussing his experience standing for election when Sirieix interjected with his thoughts on Farage’s political reputation.
“When I first put myself up [for election], I didn’t care if anyone voted for me”, Farage mused, as the campmates prepared a rather unsatisfactory looking dinner of mudcrabs.
“The thing is Nigel,” Sirieix then cut in, “you destroyed the economy. They said we’re going to get £350 million extra for the NHS…it never happened,” he continued. “You’ve really created a big mess, Nigel.”
He then tasked with Farage naming three tangible benefits of Brexit, to which the GB News host offered the slightly unconvincing answers of “self-government”, “hopefully take back our territorial waters", and “the nuclear submarine deal with Australia”.
After shrugging off Sirieix’s arguments as “absolute b****cks”, Farage added in the Bush Telegraph: “Fred can’t help himself. A lot of people in life are persuadable – Fred Sirieix is not one of them.”
Earlier in the day, Sam Thompson and Nella Rose (or salmonella, as Sam is keen for them to be called), stepped up for another Bushtucker trial. Even by his standards, Sam was particularly ecstatic just to be involved. “It’s a pleasure, it’s an honour,” he said to Ant and Dec before the trial kicked off, practically bouncing on the spot. “I’ve always wanted to be stood here looking at you.”
After admitting that Sam’s high energy during the trial on Friday had left her feeling “overwhelmed”, Nella looked exhausted before the challenge even kicked off. It didn’t look like a promising start for the pair, who had to collaborate in an underwater Q&A game which involved Sam having to lick the all-important stars to pry them loose, while being surrounded by lobsters, crabs and toads. \
For her part, Nella was surrounded by water spiders, and seemed in a state of genuine terror the entire time.
“Are you okay, Nella?” Ant and Dec asked her at one point, to which she simply replied: “No.”, later confessing that spiders are her worst fear.
But despite a shaky start, the pair powered through, managing to collect ten stars to bring back to camp. “All I wanted to do was just make you proud,” Sam beamed to Ant and Dec.
Elsewhere, Tony Bellew continued to fascinate the group by regaling them with stories of his time in the ring. On his infamous 2018 fight against Ukrainian world champion Oleksander Usyk, Bellew told Sam and Jamie-Lynn Spears that the referee, who stopped the fight, saved his life.
“Obviously he’s [Uskyk’s] amazing. I've fought stronger people, I've fought quicker people, but I've never fought someone like him who has got everything. He works you out.”
“The referee literally saved my life,” he continued. “Next shot probably puts me away for good. So, boxing at the highest level in the professional business is brutal. My priority was to make it home safe. After that it was to win at all costs.”
There was almost an extra treat in camp, as Frankie Dettori and Nick Pickard succeeded in a milk bottle-themed Dingo Dollar challenge, but their fellow campmates voted for the wrong answer to the question that would have sealed the deal.
“The majority were wrong,” Farage said afterwards. “Even democracy, occasionally, does get it wrong”. Fred would probably agree.
