I'm a Celebrity cast and families dealt blow in Australia as ITV ditch major luxury

I'm a Celebrity campmates reportedly won't be staying at the usual Palazzo Versace Hotel in Australia this year, with ITV instead said to have opted for other accommodation.

Campmates and their families are understood to have stayed at the luxurious Palazzo Versace Hotel for almost two decades. It has become recognisable to viewers.

ITV however is said to have ditched the hotel in favour of the JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort and Spa this year. Both hotels are in Queensland and are located near each other.

It's been claimed that the move means it could cost less to accommodate the cast of the upcoming series. It comes ahead of the new series launching in just over a week.

A source told the Sun : "The new hotel is lovely, but just different to the bouji opulence of the Versace". They said the latter has become "well-known to viewers" since 2004.

The decision to change accommodation this year is part of an effort to "refresh the show," according to a show source. They said the hotel was an aspect that had been reviewed.

They said: "We're constantly looking at ways to refresh the show and being away from Australia [in the pandemic] gave us the opportunity to look at all aspects of the show".

ITV was approached for comment.

According to the Sun, the Versace hotel is a "£1,000 a night resort". It instead states that even high-end suites with an ocean view at the Marriott hotel are around £650 a night.

We however found that the Versace offers suites from around £300 per night, depending on the date. This is cheaper than suites at the Marriott in some periods.

A number of celebrities have already landed in Australia ahead of the new series of the ITV show. It is set to launch next weekend with a special bumper-length episode.
