I'm A Celeb stars take part in 'Squid Game challenge' as ITV bosses ramp up the gore

The stars of this year's I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! look set to take part in a Squid Game challenge, inspired by the hit Korean drama on Netflix.

The smash-hit show shocked viewers with its depiction of deadly kids' games, which desperate contestants had to compete in.

Now, the likes of Boy George and Matt Hancock are said to be gearing up for a 'sickening' Bushtucker trial based on the series - in which they'll wear matching tracksuits.

An I'm A Celeb insider said: "The Squid Game style challenge is the trial show bosses are most excited about.

"Viewers will no doubt know all about Squid Game and its bloodthirsty content, therefore pushing the celebrities into that world will make for exciting telly.

"Being back in Australia means challenges can be on a far bigger scale and they've really pushed the boat out for this one," reports MailOnline.

The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment.

It's also thought Squid Game's terrifying masked guards and Front Men will be depicted in the Bushtucker Trial.

The smash-hit show is Netflix's biggest offering, with subscribers watching 1.65billion hours of content within its first 28 days of release.

I'm A Celeb bosses are hoping the new series, which starts on Sunday, will also pull in massive numbers.

The series will feature a record 24 trials, with disgraced MP Matt Hancock tipped to take on the first challenge.

Mr Hancock has caused outrage with his decision to enter the jungle, which has seen him suspended from his role as Conservative MP.

The former health secretary said his decision was driven by a need to "deliver important messages to the masses".

But fans aren't having of it.

Thousands have taken to social media saying they're going to vote for Mr Hancock to do every challenge.

One said: "Matt Hancock will do every single Bushtucker trial for sure."

Another added: "Matt Hancock is going to get more Bushtucker trials than Gillian McKeith and Natalie Appleton combined. Smart move ITV."

While a third stated: "I’ve never voted for a game show. This year, my finger will be firmly pressed on redial for Matt Hancock to do every single Bushtucker Trial."

Mr Hancock will be joined by Boy George, Sue Cleaver, Owen Warner, Scarlette Douglas, Mike Tindall MBE, Charlene White, Chris Moyles, Jill Scott MBE, Babatúndé Aléshé and Olivia Attwood.

I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here bosses are said to have ripped up the show's opening format in Australia, promising it will be bigger and better than ever.

Celebs will be split into THREE groups instead of usual two with multiple challenges, with some famous faces not making it into camp before Sunday's opening show is over.

Executive Producer Olly Nash teased: "It's much bigger than we've ever done before. And we're filming more(challenges) than we've ever filmed before.

"There'll be more elements lasting over more shows than has happened before too, so it's not all just going to be limited to show one. Not all celebrities will be here in camp at the end of Sunday's show."

• I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! starts on ITV on Sunday at 9pm
