I'm A Celeb star slams Ant and Dec for never apologising after 'merciless trolling'

I'm A Celebrity star Hollie Arnold has hit out at hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly for 'never apologising' to her after she became the 'butt' of the Geordie duos jokes on the 2020 series.

Paralympian Hollie, 28, joined the ITV series during the height of the pandemic when I'm A Celeb bosses were forced to ditch the iconic Australian jungle, and instead make do with Gwrych Castle in Wales as a temporary location.

Although she arguably appeared on one of the most memorable series' of I'm A Celeb due to the circumstances surrounding Covid, Hollie's time on the show and her memories from being in camp have been tarnished due to the severe trolling she faced after leaving the show.

Hollie was also left hurt by Geordie duo Ant and Dec after they made an ongoing joke out of Hollie using her MBE title while introducing herself to fellow campmates.

The Paralympian has since said the hurtful messages she received on social media in response to Ant and Dec's seemingly harmful gag made her feel 'ashamed'.

Ant and Dec's viral joke even propelled Hollie to remove the title of her deserved honour from her social media bio.

After leaving Gwrych Castle, Hollie found that I'm A Celebrity fans seemed to think she was 'above' everyone else due to the fact she referenced her honour while introducing herself to her fellow campmates on day one.

Ant and Dec mocked Hollie for introducing herself with an MBE (ITV)

"I received so much abuse and read all of this horrible nonsense online. People thought I was above myself but I'm literally the most chilled and laidback person ever," Hollie explained.

"Ant and Dec made that even worse and played on it, I got so much hate from people who didn't know me. It got to the point where I took my MBE title off Instagram because it made me feel so ashamed.

"For the time being I'm using PLY - for Paralympian - but I shouldn't have to, I should feel proud of what I have achieved," she told The Sun.

Hollie added that she believes hosts Ant and Dec are partially responsible for the hate she received after leaving the show as they continuously made a joke out of her introducing herself with her MBE title.

In one segment from the 2020 after Hollie left, Ant was heard correcting Dec by stating that his name was 'actually, Ant McPartlin OBE'.

Despite the endless trolling aimed at her, Hollie has yet to receive an apology from Ant and Dec or ITV.

"You know that you are 'fair game' on the show but it would have been better if they said, 'She didn't mean it like that'. But, unfortunately, when you go on these shows you expose yourself and online trolls are very hurtful," Hollie added.

Hollie received her MBE in recognition of her services to field athletics, as part of the 2017 New Years Honours List.

The Mirror has reached out to an ITV spokesperson for comment.
