TV fans have been rendered speechless after throwback snaps of Richard Madeley left many to deem him unrecognisable in his youthful, flares-adored form.
The 65-year-old Good Morning Britain host is currently competing in the 2021 series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! – trading in cosy nights at home with wife Judy Finnegan, 73, for freezing nights in a Welsh castle with fellow TV stars.
With Richard holed up in a dungeon for the next few weeks, his social media accounts have been taken over by his nearest and dearest.
And while Richard is away, his family will play – and they have been sharing incredible throwback snaps of the television host – that he may wish had never seen the light of day.
Taking to Twitter and Instagram on Monday night, Richard’s family uploaded sensational photos of the star from decades before showing him sporting a mullett hairstyle and huge flares.
Poking fun at the broadcasting legend, whoever has the keys to Richard’s accounts typed: “Lots of lovely comments about how well Richard is looking in the castle, but do you think he could still rock a pair of flares?”
Richard’s daughter, Chloe, was among the first to react to the image.
The 34-year-old fitness fanatic responded: “I can’t look at this without laughing” alongside a crying-with-laughter emoji.
Another humorously typed: “What a LEGend”.
And a further fan chortled: “move over @davidginolaofficial you’re not a patch on our Richard.”
But others were quick to praise Richard for his gentlemanly behaviour inside the I’m A Celeb castle.
One fan gushed: “Flares or no flares Richard is doing really well in the castle. A team player and very considerate of others. A true gentleman.”
While Richard has delighted fans with his upbeat attitude inside the castle, some have noticed he has a habit of frequently reminding viewers he is famous for being part of a double act.
During Monday night’s show, Danny Miller announced that Richard and Dame Arlene Phillips would be paired for a challenged.
Ahead of the task, Richard commented: “Okay, well I'm used to partnerships, you know, Richard and Judy. Today, for one day only, it's Richard and Arlene."
However it is far from the first time the star has crowbarred the phrase “Richard and Judy” into a scene.
One viewer wrote on Twitter: "This needs to be a new drinking game. Take a shot every time Richard says Richard and Judy. #ImACeleb."
Another asked: "Has Richard got a wife called Judy? He hasn’t mentioned it #ImACeleb" – while a third said: "New drinking game: we drink everyday Richard says Richard and Judy #ImACeleb."
