I’m A Celeb’s Julia Morris On How She Accidentally Ruined A Celeb’s Jungle Experience

Aussie comedian Julia Morris has been hosting I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here since it launched in Australia in 2015. During that time, she’s been to South Africa 10 times, had two handsome co-hosts — Dr Chris Brown and Robert Irwin — and held countless bugs, snakes and spiders. Although it’s undoubtedly been a career highlight for the Gold Logie nominee, she does have one regret from her time on the show — the one time she meddled in a celeb’s business.

As the hosts of the show, Robert and Julia are generally separated from the contestants until it’s time for a trial or a challenge. Sometimes, it’s hard to watch. Especially just moments after you’ve come out of the comforts of your trailer, to see the contestants struggling with the limited food, entertainment and luxuries they’ve become used to. The hosts aren’t meant to get involved. But one time, Julia couldn’t help herself.

“I did have a word with a contestant once, actually,” Julia admitted to PEDESTRIAN.TV.

“They were being a bit bitchy and I thought, that person’s not bitchy, you know? I didn’t want people to get the wrong impression.”

As they were standing side by side during a trial, Julia had a quiet word with the campmate.

“I said, ‘Listen, just be careful not to look too bitchy’. But then, when that person came out of the jungle, and I spoke to them afterwards, and they were like, ‘Oh my God’. I was like, ‘fuck. What have I said?'”

From that moment on, Julia realised that although she had good intentions, her meddling had stressed out the anonymous celebrity about their public perception.

“In doing that, I realised that I had mucked around with the format because that person was then up in their heads, asking themselves ‘what have I said? Am I in trouble?’ and I spoiled the rest of their stay in the jungle for them.”

“I think that was either in season one or two,” Julia continued.

“After that, I’ve never slipped. No favours, nowhere. They’re not my job. I feel for our contestants who are struggling, but it’s not for me to break them out of their bubble by reminding them that home is keeping an eye on them.

“And from that moment to now, I’ve never done it again.”

You heard the lady!!! She’s hands off now!!! So if you’re a celebrity reading this, don’t expect any tips, tricks or handouts in the jungle!!!!

I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! premieres Sunday 19 January At 7.00pm on 10 and 10 Play.
