I'm A Celeb hosts Ant and Dec 'go too far' with savage dig about Shaun Ryder's drug battle

I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly made a savage dig towards contestant Shaun Ryder during the debut episode of the All-Star series.

The line-up for the brand-new ITV series includes none other than Shaun, 60, Carol Vorderman, 62, Amir Khan, 36, and Diversity star Jordan Banjo, 30.

As avid fans of the iconic reality TV series tuned in to watch the thrilling All-Star series, they witnessed Carol, Amir, and Jordan all face the first terrifying trial of the series which saw them walk out on the dreaded plank and dangle in the air.

And as they introduced the first trio, Ant and Dec threw a savage dig Shaun's way before his scenes aired.

Shaun had famously struggled with drug addiction and has been incredibly open about his battle.

Referencing Shaun's addiction battle, the Geordie duo joked about the contestants being 'higher than Shaun was in the 90s' in the savage dig.

"Welcome back to I'm A Celebrity...South Africa. So we've met our first three contestants - Carol, Amir, and Jordan. And before they could head into camp, they faced a challenge that meant they would be higher than Shaun Ryder in the nineties," Ant mocked.

"Wow... wow. That is high," added Dec.

The final celebrity confirmed for the series is Happy Mondays star Shaun Ryder, who took his first shot at the jungle in 2010, coming second.

Ahead of the series kicking off, Shaun said: “All I can remember about the trials is eating a lot of penises, testicles and eyeballs.”

“I could have stayed another year in Australia. I loved living outside in the camp and I had a proper laugh with my fellow celebrities.

“I know going to South Africa will be a great adventure. I can’t wait to do it.”

Following Ant and Dec's savage quip, I'm A Celebrity fans flocked to Twitter to share their reaction.

"OMG Ant and Dec did not just make that joke about Shaun," one wrote.

I’m A Celebrity… South Africa continues on ITV1 and ITVX at 9pm tomorrow.
