I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! fans were left furious as Matt Hancock completed another Bushtucker Trial on the ITV reality show on Sunday evening.
Mr Hancock took on the House of Horrors trial, which saw him surrounded by a series of animals and insects in a replica house.
One of the rooms was filled with pigeons, while another was crawling with snakes with four separate rooms Mr Hancock moved through in the search for precious stars.
As Mr Hancock found one of the yellow stars, representing a meal for camp, it was in a container surrounded by sniping crayfish which he had to pick up and move.
As Mr Hancock removed each in turn, Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly watched on, before Ant urged the MP to ‘be careful’ with the animals.
However, a number of viewers at home were left outraged by the Geordie’s comment as they took to Twitter to respond.
One wrote: “Well I've said it in the past and I'm going to say it again!! I truly dislike the way the animals are used!!
“All for Ant and Dec's entertainment!! Every living creature deserves better!!”
Another wrote: “So they said be careful not to hurt the animals but what if they accidentally stepped on a spider or something it can't be helped.”
“Be careful of the animals?? F***ing hell, they’ve spent the last 10 years pouring hundreds & thousands of critters up celebrities orifices,” another penned.
Another wrote: “Ant & Dec asking contestants to be gentle with animals whilst feeding them Kangaroo testicles.”
This comes after Ant and Dec were urged by animal rights charity PETA to step down from their hosting roles on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here in an open letter ahead of the new series.
The TV duo have fronted the programme for more than 20 years with them cheering on tens of celebs as they take on the gruesome trials.
Many of the infamous Bushtucker Trials have involved the use of rats, snakes, spiders and other jungle critters as well as live insects during the eating challenges.
In the letter, from PETA's Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen, Ant and Dec were accused of being "complicit in cruelty to animals" on the ITV programme as various challenges include snakes, insects and other animals.
The scathing letter added that Ant and Dec's hosting of the show sends a "message to viewers that you think animal abuse is not only acceptable but also entertaining".
It added: "For 20 years, you have been complicit in the 'bushtucker trials', standing by as animals of all descriptions are tormented – and even killed – for TV ratings.
"In this time, you must surely have become aware of the suffering, discomfort, and fear that these unwilling participants endure during the challenges. Ostriches, crocodiles, snakes, rats, and thousands of insects have been exploited for the show’s puerile pranks – and we fear that the upcoming series will be no different."
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! returns at 9pm on ITV and ITV Hub
