I'm A Celebrity 2022 viewers saw a tearful Matt Hancock seek "forgiveness" from the public, as he appeared to confirm this as his main aim for doing the show on Friday.
Hancock was called out this week for "lying" over his recent claims about why he took on the jungle series, which differed from the reasons he initially stated.
But on Friday night, he appeared to shock his campmates with his confession that he was "looking for forgiveness" over his "mistakes".
The disgraced Tory MP was quizzed on how he felt he handled the pandemic in his role as Health Secretary, after the heavy backlash the government faced at the time - and continue to face now.
But as Hancock denied breaking the law, while he admitted to breaking Covid guidelines, he soon became emotional as he revealed his intentions for doing the show, and beyond.
Charlene White had opened up about her heartbreaking loss during the first coronavirus wave, with her aunt dying from the virus.
As the campmates listened, they shared their thoughts over Hancock's handling of the pandemic as the Health Secretary at the time - as well as him breaking the rules the public were expected to follow.
Chris Moyles said: "You were articulate and human. And I think that’s why a lot of people felt let down a bit."
Sue Cleaver added, as the chat continued: "I think we’ve covered everything, we should stop. What I do appreciate is that you did eat a sheep’s vagina for us. And life isn’t black and white and we are all fallible and we all f*** up."
But the chat went on, as Hancock said to Charlene: "Do you know what it is actually, what I’m really looking for is a bit of forgiveness, that’s what I’m really looking for."
Sue said: "Well done, that’s great. Just say that," and Scarlette Douglas added: "I nearly cried then."
Hancock replied: “So did I. We all make mistakes. I made a pretty big one."
Charlene hugged him, as Sue said: "The humanness has come out now. That took b***s Matt to say that," before she hugged him too.
Charlene added in the Bush Telegraph: "Well, you could have blown me down with a feather, that was not what I was expecting at all. It is a very human reaction when you can see that someone is getting upset to give them a hug."
Matt said later on in the Bush Telegraph said: "I wasn’t really expecting it, but it did get very emotional."
