'I’ll get some new glasses for a start': Seven neighbours share £210,000 Postcode Lottery win

Seven neighbours from Carmarthenshire are sharing thousands of pounds following a huge postcode lottery win.

A Glanamman grandad is one of the seven neighbours who are celebrating after winning £210,000 with People’s Postcode Lottery

The cash windfall comes after the Welsh postcode - SA18 2BE - was announced as a winner with the lottery on Sunday, March 13. Seven of the neighbours living on the winning street of Maes Llewelyn won £30,000 each.

Byron Davies, 75, and his wife, Delith, plan to put some of the money towards elevating both their daughters’ and grandsons’ new businesses in the local area.

Byron’s wife, Delith, said: “Diolch yn fawr” as they were handed the cheque. She was bouncing up and down with excitement as she said: “I was only expecting a thousand, oh my goodness, diolch yn fawr! I can’t even breathe, let alone speak, and that’s unusual from me!”

When asked how the pair would spend the money, Delith said: “I can’t begin to tell you. I’ll get some new glasses for a start.” Byron was quick to add: “I might get a new set of bowls.”

Byron wasn’t going to let the prize distract from his usual routine. To celebrate, he was off to play his usual game of bowls at the local club in Ammanford with his friends - something he’s done for 30 years.

When asked how the couple would celebrate tonight, the grandmother of two said: “I’ve got Prosecco in the fridge if anybody wants some!”

The generous couple are keen to help family with their business ventures. Their daughter, Helen, opened a nail bar just before Christmas in Llandybïe and their eldest grandson has also opened a barbershop in neighbouring village, Cross Hands.

When asked what that would mean to Helen, she said: “That would be wonderful and very much appreciated obviously.” She went on to comment on her mum’s reaction, and said: “I’m amazed my mum didn’t cry! She cries at everything.”

The couple have said they are pleased to be helping local charities and good causes and will continue playing. Delith said: “It’s nice to know that you can help somebody, especially with how the world is at the moment.”

The other winners were either unavailable or chose to remain anonymous.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Matt Johnson presented the winners with their cheques and shared his congratulations.

He said: "I’m delighted for all of our winners in Glanamman today. I hope they enjoy spending the win and treat themselves with the prize money."

People’s Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to play and there are guaranteed winners every day. People play with their chosen postcode and are automatically entered into all draws.

Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise over £850 million to date for thousands of good causes across Britain and internationally.
