'I just laugh at him' - Andy Robertson explains Luis Diaz's first days in Liverpool dressing room

Andy Robertson has explained how he is overcoming the language barrier to help Luis Diaz settle in at Liverpool.

Diaz has been impressive in his two outings since completing a £49million move from Porto shortly before last month's transfer deadline.

There were signs of an understanding between Robertson and the new signing down the left flank during the Reds' 2-0 Premier League win over Leicester City at Anfield on Thursday.

And the defender believes there will be a lot more to come from the Colombia international.

"He doesn't speak much Scottish, that's for sure!" said Robertson. "He sits next to me in the training room but his English is very, very little.

"The people who speak Spanish are helping him settle in a lot. I can help, I just kind of smile and laugh at him and try to make him feel comfortable.

"But I think I need to learn 'man on' or 'time' (in Spanish) and maybe that will do for now!

"I'm really impressed with him. Obviously we will get more training and games with him and hopefully he settles in quite quickly."

Robertson has also been encouraged by the return to action of Harvey Elliott, who has shone in successive cameos after returning from almost five months out with a fractured ankle.

However, there were times when Liverpool had to quell the eagerness of the youngster following his injury.

"After he had his operation everyone had to tell him to calm down a little," said Robertson.

"I think he wanted to go to the next game which was a day after his operation, and we were saying 'Harvey, there's time for that'.

"But since then he has worked so hard to get back on the pitch. He has been so focused and determined to get back as quickly as possible.

"He is in great shape and when he comes back in training, it's as if he has never been gone. It's as if he didn't lose any sharpness. He'll be important for us in the run-in."

Both Diaz and Elliott will be hoping for involvement when Liverpool travel to Burnley on Sunday looking to keep the pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Sean Dyche's side are bottom of the table having won only once in the league all season. However, the Clarets have games in hand on every team above them and have lost the same amount - eight - as fourth-placed West Ham United, and are unbeaten at Turf Moor in the top flight since October.

And Robertson, speaking to LFC TV, said: "Burnley is never an easy game, away even more so. It's always difficult going to Turf Moor especially when they are down the bottom end of the table.

"I know what's it like down there, I know at this point of the season just picking up any points is so crucial to try and get yourself out of the situation.

"The Burnley players are a good group, very honest, very hard-working and have willing runners, always there for second balls and really good in the air in both boxes and set-pieces are a problem.

"You know what you are going to get but it's something hard to stop and that's where we need to be up for it. We need to make sure we are the ones winning the second balls, we are the ones winning our tackles and creating chances and having corners and things like that."
