'I invited my best mate to witness the birth of my child - my wife was livid'

When it comes to giving birth, mums can decide who they want to have in the delivery room with them to help them through the process. Most commonly, the woman's partner, mum, or other loved one will be the one holding their hand as they welcome their baby into the world.

But how would you feel if your partner invited their best mate along for the experience? That's what one new mum recently experienced when her wife told her friend that he could come and witness her spouse give birth - without ever actually telling her wife that he was coming.

The woman said her wife recently gave birth to a baby boy but claimed work commitments had kept her away from the hospital, so she, unfortunately, missed the birth.

While on her way to the hospital to meet her son, the woman called her best mate and invited him to come and see the little one too, but she failed to tell her wife what she had done.

To make matters worse, the woman's friend even arrived at the hospital before her, and met her son before she did - which left her wife absolutely livid.

In a post on Reddit, she said: "My wife and I had been trying for a baby for a while, so you could imagine our excitement when we found out that she was pregnant. Recently, she gave birth to our son, and I jumped away from work when I heard that she was on her way to the hospital. Unfortunately, I didn't get there on time and missed the birth itself.

"As I was on my way to the hospital, I decided to call my best friend and invite him to the hospital to meet the baby. My best friend got there first and met the baby before me, however, I do not mind.

"My wife is not happy about this, mostly because I didn't ask her and she said that this is a very personal moment for the both of us, but I just don't see the problem."

The woman said her best friend will be a major part of the baby's life once her wife goes back to work as he will be helping her look after the little one.

She added: "I wanted my best friend there as he is going to be in the baby's life quite a lot. When the wife goes back to work, he's going to be around a lot more to help with the baby as the wife has a habit of doing a lot of late hours and extra shifts."

Commenters on the post were quick to tell the woman she had done the wrong thing by inviting her friend to the hospital, as they said it should have been a special moment for the couple to share together.

One person said: "Sorry, you didn't invite him to your child's birth so much as you invited him to your wife's delivery and hospital stay. Do not do that."

While another added: "Your wife just pushed a whole human out of her body, you invited someone she didn't know was coming, and you don't understand her issue?"

And a third wrote: "Your wife just gave birth (without you there). She's sitting there waiting for you, and your friend comes in. You didn't even tell her. The birth of the child is a special moment for the parents. Your wife needed you by her side, not your friend. Even if it was her own friend, I'm sure she'd still be disappointed."
